David Harbour’s backdated Instagram posts have sparked fury among Lily Allen fans in the wake of the release of her new album West End girl.
Released on Friday, West End Girl is an ode to Lily’s marriage to philandering David, to whom she was married for four years after meeting on dating app Raya, with 14 tracks detailing in brutal honesty the breakdown of their relationship.
In the early days of their romance in 2019, David took to Instagram to share a clip of a video of Lily singing alongside a caption reading: ‘This rockstar’s beautiful video just hit www.nowness.com. She’s very sad in it. She wrote it before she met me…
‘Luckily. Because after meeting me, your life becomes unbearably happy and you can never write sad songs again. You can only write about sh***ing rainbows and farting glitter. Cause you’re so. Damn. Happy.’
His Instagram account was soon flooded with angry comments scolding the actor for his treatment of Lily, while also grilling him over ‘Madeline’ – the woman named on the album as the other half of his alleged three-year affair.
Other posts featuring Lily also included snaps from their Las Vegas wedding in 2020, in which he called her ‘The People’s Princess’ and himself ‘her devoted, low born, but kind credit card holder’ as well as a slew of images with her kids.
Yet more adoring posts included one about sex toys. On the album Lily reveals she found a bag filled with sex toys, lube and condoms in his Pussy Palace.
In 2020, when Lily launched her own sex toy, David shared a promotional image and added the caption: ‘I’m getting my wife one. Because of archaic idiotic ‘norms’, sex positivity and female pleasure seems hard to discuss in polite society…
‘Dumb. Have fun out there. You won’t go blind, I promise, cause believe me, from my vast rich history with self love, I know from whence I insta-caption.’
Fans soon flooded the comments section, including one pointing out that the racy post about sex toys ‘aged like milk’.
On his post about their wedding, enraged fans penned: ‘I stand with Lily Allen. Let’s stop gassing up mediocre porn addicts. They only end up destroying you once they’ve locked you in… LILY ALLEN HAS GIVEN A VOICE TO SO MANY WOMEN…
The record is her first in seven years and was recorded in just 10 days, in the wake of her devastating split from the Stranger Things actor in December after Lily, 40, discovered his three-year affair and slew of infidelities.
The raw tracks on the eagerly-anticipated album have not only exposed David’s extra-curricular activities but also a number of sordid details of his affair and their marriage, including the discovery of sex toys and condoms at his ‘P***y Palace’.
While many of her confessions are explicit, the star also takes to hinting, including alluding to prostitution on track five, Madeline, in which she states David was allowed to sleep with other women ‘as long as there was payment’.
Madeline is a constant thread of the album, as Lily appears to be naming the woman involved in David’s affair and reads out a message exchange, which sees Lily attempt to investigate whether he was emotionally cheating rather than just having sex.
