Inter Milan striker Mehdi Taremi is reportedly ‘calm’ and ‘safe’, having made a hasty exit from the Iranian capital Tehran following US air strikes last weekend.

The 32-year-old travelled by road to his hometown Bushehr, a trip of almost a thousand kilometers towards the south of Iran, a report has claimed.

There, the Iran international, who returned to the Middle East to play in World Cup qualifiers earlier this month, was reportedly reunited with his family and has been in contact with Inter team manager Matteo Tagliacarne and head coach Cristian Chivu.

According to La Gazetta dello Sport, Taremi reassured his worried team-mates – who are currently in the US contesting the Club World Cup – of his condition, insisting that he is ‘fine, calm and safe’ and away from areas that have been bombed in recent days.

It follows Monday’s announcement by US President Donald Trump that he had brokered a ceasefire between Iran and Israel after ordering his own strike on three Iranian nuclear sites over the weekend.

Trump had called Saturday’s air strikes on the nuclear sites a ‘spectacular military success’ and gave a stark warning to Iran that more attacks would be coming if the regime didn’t make peace.

Earlier Monday, Iran had retaliated by sending missiles toward the US’s largest military base in the Middle East, located just outside of Doha in Qatar, which didn’t prompt a response from Trump.

Instead he announced the ceasefire.

On Tuesday morning Trump was fired up after Israel decided to launch another massive assault on Iran just as the deal was to take hold.

The furious President then went on a foul-mouthed tirade saying that both Israel and Iran violated the ceasefire deal that he announced Monday evening.

‘We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the f*** they’re doing,’ Trump said before boarding Marine One en route to the NATO Summit early Tuesday morning.

A fragile ceasefire is currently being observed by the two nations, though tensions remain high.

Taremi, who has been capped 89 times for Iran, did have the possibility of joining his team-mates Stateside, according to reports in Italy, but recent events have now ruled that out.

The tournament could have been the last time he played for the Serie A club amid intense speculation that he could depart this summer.

According to Sky Sports Italia, Premier League sides Nottingham Forest and Fulham are among the sides interested in acquiring him in this window.
