Man United confirm Antony exit to Real Betis as club make £60m loss

Manchester United have confirmed Antony has joined Real Betis on a permanent deal.

The Spanish side had pulled away from negotiations on Friday after a £25million deal had been put in place but they refused to pay more on severance payments and wages.

Antony joined United from Ajax for £86m but they have agreed to sell for £21.6million. Of that £19.6m is fixed with a further £2m due in bonuses.

They have also agreed a substantial net sell-on of 50 per cent for the Brazilian.

No severance pay off has been made to the 25-year old who is due in Seville for his medical.

‘Everybody at the club would like to wish Antony the very best of luck for the future,’ United said in a statement.

Antony's nightmare spell at Manchester United is finally over having agreed to rejoin Real Betis

Former Man United manager Erik ten Hag brought winger Antony with him from Ajax

The 25-year-old became a fan favourite at Real Betis last season, scoring nine goals in 26 games under the guidance of Manuel Pellegrini.

He helped them reach the Conference League final where they were beaten 4-1 by Chelsea.

LaLiga outfit Betis were desperate to re-sign the Brazil international and have had to wait until the final day of the transfer window to get their man.

Antony will go down as one of Manchester United’s biggest flops having scored just 12 goals in 96 games during his three years at Old Trafford.

Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was desperate to take Antony with him from Ajax when he took up the reins at the Red Devils in 2022.

United had to wait until August 30 to get Antony and the Brazilian started life in England with a bang.

He scored in his first three Premier League games with his debut goal coming in Manchester United’s 3-1 win over Arsenal.

A winning goal in United’s Europa League clash with Barcelona was also a highlight but the 2023-24 campaign saw the wideman score just three goals in 38 games.

He netted one goal in 14 games during the first half of last season before being shipped out to Spain in January.
