Horrifying footage shows a speeding biker ploughing into a trainee teacher as she steps off the bus onto the pavement.
Macenna Shaw, 21, was wearing a balaclava-style ski mask when he smashed into Grace Marriott in Halifax, West Yorkshire.
The victim, in her 30s, was left with a punctured lung, three broken ribs and a broken leg, resulting in two operations as well as permanent scarring.
The reckless motorcyclist, from Bradford, has been jailed for 22 months and banned from driving after pleading guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Now stomach-turning CCTV video has emerged of the crash at the bus stop on September 4, 2023.
It shows Ms Marriott, dressed in shorts, t-shirt and a baseball cap and carrying a canned drink, walking along the interior of the bus as it slows to a halt before exiting through the now open doors.
She takes a brief glimpse to her left as she steps onto the pavement but within a split second is smashed by Shaw on his speeding bike.
Ms Marriott’s drink and bag go flying and the victim herself is taken along the side of the road about 10 yards before being left slumped on the ground.
The perpetrator is also momentarily floored before getting back to his feet and attempting to pick his bike back up, showing no interest in helping the trainee teacher out.
But just as he seems to be getting ready to make his escape, Shaw is held down by several passers-by including the bus driver himself and another member of the public who arrives in a car.
While the biker is pinned to the ground, more bystanders rush to the scene to help out.
Bradford Crown Court heard that Shaw was not wearing a helmet as he rode a Benelli motorbike on the pavement. His motorbike did not have a numberplate on display.
Prosecutor Anthony Dunne told the court that witnesses included an off-duty police officer, who said Shaw’s motorbike left a line of traffic behind the bus and mounted the pavement on its nearside.
A passenger on the bus described hearing ‘a roaring engine’ as the doors of the bus opened.
Police also found Shaw with a knuckleduster in his pocket.
Ms Marriott was taken to Leeds General Infirmary by ambulance having suffered three fractured ribs, a punctured lung, a fracture to the bottom of her left leg and multiple abrasions and burns to her arms, abdomen, hips and buttocks.
She underwent two operations and a skin graft for a wound on her leg, and had to wear a metal cage on her leg for 14 months.
The court heard she was unable to move for six weeks, and afterwards was in a wheelchair. She has since been unable to complete her teacher training.
In a statement, Ms Marriott said the pain of the burns she suffered was so intense that she did not notice the pain of her broken leg.
She said: ‘I feel every part of me has been taken away. I feel like it has ruined my life.’
Matthew Moore-Taylor, defending, said Shaw’s ‘appalling piece of behaviour’ stemmed from an ‘immature and stupid’ decision and that he was sorry.
He said he had expressed a significant degree of genuine remorse and that that remorse was genuine, adding: ‘He regrets it deeply.’
Mr Moore-Taylor described Shaw’s behaviour on the day as ‘reckless and impulsive’ adding there was ‘no sensible explanation’ for wearing a balaclava.
Jailing Shaw, Recorder David Gordon said: ‘You were speeding before you arrived at the bus.
‘You should have appreciated that there was a serious risk of someone getting off the bus and that your driving could result in a collision, and it did.
‘You tried on one occasion to flee the scene, and you had to be restrained by more than one passer-by.’
Shaw was disqualified from driving for two years, with an 11-month extension, totalling a 35-month ban.
He must also take an extended re-test to regain his licence and has been ordered to forfeit his bike.
