Wynne Evans confirms he has split from his fiancée and is dating again

Wynne Evans has split from his fiancée and is dating again – just weeks after he proposed.

Last month the Strictly Come Dancing star, 53, sparked speculation that he and Liz Brookes had broken up after he deleted his engagement post from Instagram and unfollowed her.

And now speaking on a Facebook Live on Saturday morning, the Welsh opera singer revealed his engagement was over and he is ‘trying to date’, while also admitting he’d been in a relationship ‘that’s not healthy for me.’

Insiders told Daily Mail that the catalyst behind the break-up was Wynne’s new business ventures – his new radio show and restaurant – which have consumed his diary, leaving little time to have a relationship.

Liz runs a successful events company in Wales which is how she met Wynne after he performed at a corporate function her firm organised.

The opera singer credited fitness-fan Liz for helping him shift weight before his stint on Strictly.

An insider told Daily Mail: ‘Wynne and Liz broke off their engagement a few weeks ago.

‘The pressure of his new business ventures took its toll and they had a big fallout.

‘Initially, there was a belief they would get back together when the ill-feeling died down, as they had split before and managed to patch things up.

‘But with Wynne actively trying to date again and going public describing the relationship as ‘not healthy’, it’s safe to say they’ve split from good this time.’

Daily Mail have approached Wynne’s reps for comment.

Wynne got down on one knee during a romantic trip to Morocco in June and documented the gesture on Instagram, posting snaps of him proposing and a close-up of Liz’s engagement ring.

He wrote: ‘Big news… I got engaged!

‘This weekend in Morocco, somewhere between the couscous, the camels, and me limping around the souks like a man with no spatial awareness, I proposed to Liz — and she said yes! (No take-backs, I’ve checked.)

Wynne also paid tribute to Liz for helping him after he was axed by the BBC following his 'spit roast' comment during the Strictly live tour in January (pictured with Katya Jones)

‘She’s clever, she’s kind, she’s got excellent taste in men.

‘Absolutely no idea how I pulled that off, but here we are! Feeling very lucky, very happy, and just a tiny bit smug.’

The couple met in 2024 shortly before his stint on the BBC1 dancing show.

Liz was often sat in the audience for the Strictly live shows and shared a sweet snap with him after one performance – saying she was ‘proud’ of him.

Speaking on a podcast last year, the father-of-two gushed about how Liz helped get him in shape: ‘I go out running with my girlfriend and stuff and I feel much better for it.’

Wynne also paid tribute to Liz for helping him through a tough time in his work life, after he was axed by the BBC following his controversial ‘spit roast’ comment made during the Strictly Come Dancing live tour in January.

Wynne – who is known for the Go Compare ads – was caught on camera seemingly suggesting a three-way sex session with presenter and Strictly professionalJanette Manrara.

The comment came at a photocall to launch the Strictly live tour and swiftly earned a rebuke from BBC bosses who told him: ‘We will not tolerate such behaviour.’

In May, Wynne broke his silence on his controversial comment as he claimed he was forced to apologise.

He denied it was a sexual jibe about a female presenter and insisted he used the term ‘spit roast’ as a nickname for fellow contestant Jamie Borthwick.

The opera singer confirmed in May the BBC will not be renewing his one-year rolling contract following a four-month investigation following the inappropriate comments made during his time on Strictly.

He has since set up his own independent radio show which streams live on his website, following the end of his breakfast show on BBC Radio Wales.

Last month, it was reported Wynne is suing the producers of the BBC show’s live tour for medical negligence after claiming he was left in ‘agony’ after suffering a double fracture and two snapped ligaments in his foot during the production.

The star admits the injury still continues to affect him, and he is currently unable to enjoy light runs.

In a bid to get over his Strictly woes and being axed by the BBC, Wynne opened a wine bar and restaurant in his hometown in Carmarthen, West Wales, called Welsh House by Wynne.

The singer was previously married to wife of seven years, Tanwen — the mum of his two kids.

He revealed the 2016 breakup left him clinically depressed and he ballooned to 22 stone.

Wynne said he struggled with dating apps when he was single and many women only wanted to meet him because he was Gio Compario from the comparison site adverts.

On his mental state following his divorce, he said: ‘I had very dark thoughts and very dark days where I would contemplate all sorts of terrible things.

‘I think it’s obvious what I’m saying, but I don’t want to say it because some people find it distressing. I’m fine to talk about it now, but at that time nothing would help me.

‘I wanted my life to be over and I did some stupid things.’
