Carey Mulligan was supported by her husband Marcus Mumford as she was awarded with a CBE by King Charles at Windsor Castle.

The BAFTA-winning actress, 40, said she felt ‘extraordinary’ after being made a Commander Of The British Empire for services to drama.

Carey proudly posed with her honour while dressed in a chic cream boucle jacket and oversized black trousers.

After accepting the CBE, the Promising Young Woman star was joined by her husband Marcus, who she married in 2012.

Carey and Marcus now have three children: Evelyn, eight, Wilfred, five, and a third child born in September 2023, whose name has not been revealed.

Carey is due to appear later this year in the Netflix adaptation of The Chronicles Of Narnia, alongside Daniel Craig and Meryl Streep.

Following her investiture ceremony, Carey was asked for her prediction to replace Daniel as James Bond.

The actor departed the iconic role of 007 following the film No Time To Die in 2021.

She said: ‘Oh, my gosh, that’s so hard. Really hard, isn’t it?

‘He’s got big shoes to fill. I think the thing about Daniel is that he was an extraordinary actor, I don’t think he was sort of the person you would have thought of for that part.

‘I think the main thing is it’s just got to be someone who’s an incredible actor.’

In 2010, Carey was awarded the BAFTA for Best Actress for her role in An Education.

She added: ‘I feel so unbelievably lucky to get to do a job that I really, really love. To have this kind of recognition on top is just sort of extraordinary to me.’

The star has previously landed three Oscar nominations, for An Education, Promising Young Woman, and most recently Maestro in 2023.

It comes after Carey sweetly recalled being pen pals with her husband Marcus Mumford when they were children.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain, she recalled meeting Marcus at a summer camp when they were children.

They stayed in touch through letters before losing contact for about 10 years. The couple later reconnected when Carey was 24, and they married in 2012.

Speaking on GMB she said: ‘We ended up going to the same summer camp when we were kids so we became pen pals after and that’s how we kept in touch, we didn’t have phones!’

‘We used to fax a bit when fax machines were cool! We need to get kids back doing the pen pal thing again. It’s a good thing.’

‘Then there was about ten years when we lost touch and then we reconnected.’

Presenter Richard Madeley then quipped: ‘It was written in the stars!’

The show then flashed up a video of Marcus carrying her down a hallway on their wedding day as she gushed: ‘Oh look at us. That was because my shoes were so unbelievably painful I couldn’t walk.

‘So I just said I’m done you will have to carry me. And then he put me down and was huffing and puffing.’
