Lauren Sanchez nearly breaks down in tears on live TV

Lauren Sanchez appeared on the Today show in New York City on Tuesday to promote her new book, The Fly Who Flew Under The Sea.

During her interview, the 56-year-old almost broke down in tears twice as she talked her dyslexia struggle that she shares with one of her sons.

Sanchez shared that she did not know she had dyslexia until she was 19 adding that she ‘hid it’ for a long time.

She also said that her community college teacher Lori urged Sanchez to get tested for dyslexia after she told her, ‘You’re not dumb, she just can’t spell.’

Then she talked about her son’s journey.

During her wedding to Jeff Bezos in June 2025, she said that her kids gave speeches and one of her sons – Evan Whitesell – who has dyslexia as well, talked about an experience that was ‘extremely important to him,’ and she added she had ‘no idea what he was going to say.’

Sanchez nearly cried as she shared the story about how her son was in the fourth grade and told himself he could do it when he was struggling to spell in class.

She added that was the ‘most meaningful and impactful moment at my wedding… besides getting married to Jeff,’ she laughed.

And now she has said that Evan saying ‘I can do it’ has inspired her so much that she has a sign in her home with those words.

And she added her daughter, Ella Whitesell, who is the artist in the family, said Sanchez, will go to college soon.

The star also said she does not like the term Empty Nester and has a new saying: ‘Egg Launcher or maybe Bird Launcher is a little better,’ she said.

She also has son Nikko Gonzalez with ex Anthony David Gonzalez, a former football star.

While on the couch Sanchez also said, ‘I want to remind parents to read to their kids’ as she talked her second book.

‘Because if you just take 10 minutes you release what is called Oxytocin and you child releases it… it’s so important.’
