New photos obtained by the Daily Mail have revealed the hotel room Nick Reiner allegedly left covered in blood following his parents’ horrific murder.
Rob Reiner’s son checked into room 207 at The Pierside Santa Monica around 4am on Sunday.
It is a $400-a-night boutique hotel about 1,000ft away from the world-famous Santa Monica Pier, and a five minute walk to the LA Metro line that goes directly to the Exposition park area where Nick was eventually arrested by cops.
Nick Reiner was charged with two counts of murder in connection to the deaths of his Hollywood legend father Rob and his mother Michele. He has not yet entered a plea.
When hotel staff came into Reiner’s room later on Sunday morning, the shower was said to be ‘full of blood’, with splatters across the bed.
The windows in the room were covered by bed sheets, detectives found when they arrived at the hotel on Monday to collect evidence.
Photos of the corridor taken on Wednesday showed that there was no crime scene tape blocking off the room where Nick stayed.
Police are now trying to trace his movements between Saturday night, when he attended a holiday party with his parents, and his arrest at 9.15pm Sunday night in downtown LA.
Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were found dead by their daughter Romy on Sunday afternoon, with emergency services called to their home around 3.30pm.
They had likely been dead for hours when they were found, with their bodies already showing signs of rigor mortis, according to police sources.
Their throats had been cut and they may have been asleep in their bed when they were murdered, a source close to the investigation claimed to the Daily Mail.
The Hollywood director’s son had been living in the guesthouse of his parents’ $13.5million mansion in the LA suburb of Brentwood at the time of their deaths.
Reiner was increasingly worried about Nick, who had a history of drug addiction and mental breakdowns, and took him to a holiday party Saturday night to ‘keep an eye on him,’ sources have said.
Nick is said to have left A-list guests feeling unnerved at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas bash, getting into a tiff with comedian Bill Hader and prompting his parents to leave the event.
A source close to the investigation told the Daily Mail that Nick may have killed his parents after the party.
‘He could have done it not long after they all went home, meaning he went there and slit their throats in the middle of the night,’ the source said. ‘They were in bed when that happened.’
Surveillance footage taken at a gas station a ten minute walk from the Reiner residence shows Nick calmly walking up the street on Saturday night before disappearing .
In the early hours of Sunday morning, he checked into the Pierside, located just off Santa Monica beach around five miles from his parents’ home, or a ten-minute drive.
The Daily Mail has approached Pierside for comment.
Fears for the Reiners’ safety were only raised when a masseuse arrived at their home for a scheduled appointment at 2pm the next day, and no one answered the door, the Daily Mail previously revealed.
Romy, who lives across the street, then reportedly investigated and called emergency services when she discovered the horrific scene.
Romy opened the door and discovered the gruesome scene of her father’s lifeless body before fleeing from the home. She was so distressed that she did not notice her mother’s slain body was also in the house.
Her roommate called 911 while Romy reached out to her father’s longtime friend Billy Crystal.
Romy only learned that her mother Michele Singer Reiner was also dead when paramedics arrived at around 3.30pm and broke the grim news, according to The New York Times.
Her older brother Nick, who she reportedly told police was ‘dangerous’, was arrested in connection with the murders later that day.
He has since been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, and if convicted, could face life in prison without the possibility of parole or even the death penalty.
