Video has captured the distressing moment actress Tara Reid was transported to hospital on a stretcher after her unattended drink was allegedly spiked.
Reid, 50, claims she was drugged and left unconscious in a terrifying incident in the early hours of Sunday morning at a Chicago hotel bar.
The concerning aftermath was captured on camera by someone standing in the lobby of the DoubleTree hotel in Rosemont. The video shows security tending to a limp-bodied Reid and placing her in a wheelchair before paramedics stepped in.
A representative for Reid has since told the Daily Mail that the American Pie star has filed a police report.
A source said that while Reid has had substance abuse issues in the past, her friends are ‘taking her for her word’ that her beverage was spiked.
They are now urging her to find out who was responsible for the alleged drugging rather than ‘throwing it all under the rug.’
‘Tara has had her issues that have been well documented in the past, and she’s gotten a lot better over the years with substance abuse, but she still smokes like a chimney,’ the source said. ‘She will have her occasional drink, but… it hits her almost immediately, so she knows her limits.’
The source said that if her friends are worried about her wellbeing, or are concerned that she might be spiraling, they will step in, but for now, they will silently keep watch.
‘Of course, if this happens again, then people are going to jump on it quickly to get her the help she might need,’ the source added. ‘But as of right now, the worry for her is at a minimum. Something that her friends are going to monitor for sure though, especially as we get closer to the holiday season.’
The insider said her friends are pushing her to obtain available security footage so that she can know exactly what happened – and if someone did slip drugs into her drink, ‘she could then go after the hotel and the person that did this to her.’
They added that if it did come from someone else, ‘the person or people that did this should be prosecuted and punished.’
A spokesperson for Reid confirmed that this representation of conversations between the actress and her friends is accurate, and that she has been in touch with the Chicago Police Department.
In a statement, the Rosemont Public Safety Department told the Daily Mail: ‘Shortly after 2:15pm on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, the Rosemont Public Safety Department spoke with Ms. Reid who was looking to file a police report. Due to the extent of the allegations being made, an online report was submitted to fully document the incident and properly detail what is known at this time. At 4:26pm an online report was received by the Rosemont Detective Division.
‘The Rosemont Public Safety Department understands the severity of the allegations being reported and are committed to investigating this incident fully. At this point, we are in communication with the hotel to gather as much video surveillance as possible. As this incident has just been reported and is still open, no further information is available at this time.’
The aftermath video shared by TMZ begins with Reid holding onto a man and speaking incoherently before being placed in a wheelchair.
As a security guard navigates her through the lobby, she slips out, her legs sliding onto the floor before being helped back in. Paramedics then intervene and take her out of the hotel on a stretcher.
A representative for Reid confirmed that she ‘has filed a police report after an incident in which she believes her drink was tampered with.’
‘She is cooperating fully with the investigation,’ they said. ‘Tara is recovering and asks for privacy during this traumatic time.
‘She also urges everyone to be careful, watch your drinks and never leave them unattended, as this can happen to anyone. She will not be making further comments at this stage.’
Paramedics responded to a call made at 12.39am on Sunday.
Authorities told TMZ that no one had mentioned anything about a potential ‘drugging’.
Witnesses also told the outlet that Reid appeared fine during their limited time with her at the bar before things quickly took a turn for the worse.
They claimed she began behaving very differently once the bar closed and a group of people started partying in the lobby. The person who recorded the video claimed that prior to the arrival of paramedics, Reid screamed: ‘You don’t know who I am? I am famous. I’m an actress.’
The outlet also noted some conflicting information regarding Reid’s timeline, saying she claimed to have gone down to the bar around 10:30PM on Saturday, was in the hospital at approximately 12AM, before waking up eight hours later.
However TMZ notes the videos show her in the wheelchair at approximately 12:30AM on Sunday and on a stretcher headed to the ambulance before 1AM.
The Daily Mail has reached out to the Rosemont Police Department for further comment, but did not immediately hear back.
The hotel has since released a statement regarding the incident, stating they were ‘aware’ of the reports surrounding Reid.
In a statement obtained by the Daily Mail, the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Chicago O’Hare Airport – Rosemont said: ‘Rosemont is aware of reports regarding an incident at the hotel this past Saturday. As soon as hotel staff observed a potential health concern involving a guest, our trained security team assisted and arranged for medical support.
‘Our hotel follows guest-safety protocols which are consistent with industry best practices and reinforced through ongoing staff training. The actions taken by our team reflect these procedures and demonstrate the seriousness with which we prioritize guest care.
‘Due to privacy obligations, we cannot comment on individual guest matters. However, our hotel takes any allegation affecting guest safety very seriously and will provide appropriate information to authorities if requested.
‘The safety and security of our guests and employees is of paramount importance to us, and we remain committed to maintaining a safe, reputable, and trusted environment for everyone who visits.’
In her interview with TMZ, Reid claimed she checked into the hotel late on Saturday and went to the bar downstairs for a drink.
She said she ordered a glass of wine and then went outside to smoke a cigarette. As she walked through the lobby, she claimed she crossed paths with a number of YouTubers who were ‘videotaping stuff’. One of them joined her outside.
When she returned to the bar, she claimed to have found a napkin covering her drink – she said ‘that was weird’ because she never placed it there, but proceeded to drink the beverage.
‘Without even finishing my drink, I just passed out,’ she told the outlet. ‘And before I knew it, I was in the hospital, eight hours later.’
Reid insisted that she only had the one drink.
Reid said she was not fully aware if tests had been carried out at the hospital to confirm she had been drugged, claiming doctors simply told her ‘you got drugged last night at the bar’.
‘It was all kind of vague. It was all like very blurry, do you know what I mean?… I can’t even explain it because I don’t even know what happened.’
‘I don’t know,’ Reid said. ‘Cause I was unconscious, so I don’t know what they did.’
She said her agent picked her up from the hospital and took her straight to a fan appearance for a signing, adding: ‘It was just a big blur.’
Asked if she had filed a police report or if she intended to,’ she told TMZ: ‘Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. I mean, this just happened. I just got back last night, so I mean this is all just happening right now. It’s really scary, you guys, I mean the whole thing is really scary.’
Reid, who feared she could have been raped if this had happened somewhere else with no security, insisted that despite her past experience with substance abuse, she is able to regulate her drinking.
‘I don’t drink hard liquor or anything like that at all,’ she said. ‘I just had a glass of wine and a cigarette and that was it… didn’t expect that to happen at all.’
In 2008 Reid sought help for substance abuse at Promise’s rehab in Malibu. While a source told People at the time that she had a problem with alcohol, the exact reason for her stint in rehab remains unknown.
‘Rehab saved my life,’ she told In Touch in 2009. ‘Before, I used to think about tomorrow and I hated it. Now, I can’t wait because I am clean and sober and I am excited.’
The latest incident comes shortly after the Daily Mail learned that Reid had split from her boyfriend of six years, 43-year-old music producer Nathan Montpetit-Howar.
Reid broke it off after she felt the romance had ‘run its course’ and become ‘bad for her,’ with a source telling us that she was ‘in a good place’.
They claimed Reid had got caught in the trap of a bad relationship and allowed it to ‘drag [her] down endlessly,’ but that she was ‘strong enough and loved herself enough to say, “Not anymore.”‘
‘She walked away because she knows she deserves better,’ they added.
Reid rose to fame in the late 1990s thanks to her role as Vicky Lathum in the American Pie film series.
She is also known for roles in films including The Big Lebowski, Josie & The Pussycats and the Sharknado movies.
She also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother UK in 2011 where she became good friends with former X Factor stars John and Edward ‘Jedward’ Grimes.
In 2023, she took part in Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, a quasi-military training series alongside Blac Chyna, Brian Austin Green and Jack Osbourne among others.
