A ‘fit’ and ‘healthy’ student died in front of his brothers after complaining just hours earlier of an upset stomach.
Joshua Adiefeh, 20, was found unresponsive in his accommodation on September 2 just two weeks into starting at the Manchester Metropolitan University.
Describing the final hours of Mr Adiefeh’s life, the student’s brothers said all had been ‘perfectly fine’ the night before he passed away – but that as time went by, he ‘started to get sick’.
Joel, his twin, told the Manchester Evening News: ‘That’s when the symptoms started to show. At that point, he wasn’t taking it too seriously because it was all under control.’
Emergency services reportedly did not attend the flat when a call was made – instead advising to take paracetemol.
Joel said he met his brother outside the accommodation and discovered him in a bad state, ‘unable to move’.
Mr Adiefeh was said to have not responded to anyone, with ‘still no progress’ after being put on his side. The ambulance then ‘tried everything’ when it arrived.
‘Me, my brother and some of his friends were waiting in the kitchen, and after they tried everything, they’d tried everything and there’s nothing else they could have done,’ Joel said.
Joel described his brother as ‘super fit’ and ‘clean-hearted’ above all.
He described seeing him as someone who ‘worked harder than everybody else’ while looking out for others at the same time.
Mr Adiefeh was also remembered as a ‘selfless’, a ‘man of faith’ and ‘always there for people’ as well as a ‘fun’ person to be around.
His brothers have started a GoFundMe, raising money to cover his funeral costs.
They remained: ‘We are deeply grateful for the love and kindness from friends, family, and community during this time of sorrow.
‘Thank you for helping us celebrate Joshua’s life and memory.’
Mr Adiefeh’s medical cause of death remains unclear at this stage.
His twin Daniel said he would sometimes undertake different diets, which on occasions involved eating once a day, in order to remain in ‘peak condition’.
‘Sometimes they would make him vomit.
‘Being such a hard worker, he would vomit and carry on working,” he said.
