X is down: Users report outages again

Elon Musk’s social media network X (formerly Twitter) has gone down again – days after Cloudflare shut down several high-profile websites.

According to Down Detector, users started reporting technical issues just after 4pm on Sunday.

This is the fourth major outage across the social media network this week, leaving thousands of users around the world affected.

The biggest impact was felt on November 18 when an internet blackout was caused by technology giant Cloudflare.

X, along with other websites such as ChatGPT, were knocked offline with disruption lasting around three hours.

Cloudflare said the company was investigating a ‘spike in unusual internet traffic’ just before the outage.

But an executive later apologised for the massive glitch and the time it took to solve, admitting it was ‘unacceptable’.

Dane Knecht, Cloudflare’s chief technology officer, said: ‘The sites, businesses, and organisations that rely on Cloudflare depend on us being available and I apologise for the impact that we caused.’

He blamed the system crash on ‘a routine configuration change,’ saying it ‘cascaded into a broad degradation to our network and other services.’

They insisted there was no evidence that the outage was caused by a cyber attack.

Cloudflare runs a huge network of servers spread across more than 330 cities in over 120 countries.

These servers help websites load faster, stay secure and handle traffic smoothly.

Its system is extremely powerful, handling massive amounts of data and connecting to more than 13,000 internet networks, including the biggest internet providers, cloud services, and major companies around the world.

The outage stems from the Cloudflare Global Network, a distributed network of data centers that connects users to websites and applications, making them faster and more secure.

As well as the Cloudflare outage, X also went down for millions of users on Tuesday and Friday.

Meanwhile, by 3.59pm on Sunday, Down Detector received 2,633 reports from users about further issues with X.
