Foremost in their thinking will be the best interests of Liverpool’s squad and for Robertson who has been an outstanding servant since 2017.

Spurs CEO Vinai Venkatesham has spoken about the need for more leadership and quality in their recruitment and is keen to support Frank as he changes the club culture.

Boss Arne Slot has also reiterated the club remain attentive to transfer opportunities this window, but expects little activity over the next 10 days.

Slot said: ‘Yeah that’s what I expect, yeah. But, as I always say, if there’s an opportunity in the market and we think we can strengthen the squad, this club will always try to do so.

‘But at this moment in time I expect it to stay mostly the same.’
