Woman in her 70s dies after being attacked by two dogs at house

A woman in her 70s has died after being attacked by two dogs inside a house. 

Emergency services rushed to Willis Pearson Avenue, Wolverhampton, at about 1.30pm today following reports that an elderly woman was injured. 

Despite the efforts of first responders to save her, she was pronounced dead at the scene. 

A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control and causing injury resulting in death. He was taken to hospital after sustaining hand injuries. 

Both dogs – which are not believed to be a banned breed – were destroyed at the scene following continued aggression when emergency services arrived.  

An investigation has been launched by West Midlands Police, while a scene remains in place. 

Anyone with information has been urged to contact the force on 101 or via the Live Chat option on its website, quoting log number 6073 of 15 April.

It comes after two dog attacks which took place last week, including one that resulted in the death of baby.

A three-month-old girl died as a result of a dog bite in Redcar, North Yorkshire. 

Police were called to a property in the Dormanstown area on April 9 and armed officers ended up shooting a dog in the street.

On April 10, teenager Jamie-Lea Biscoe was found with serious injuries by emergency services after a dog attack in an Essex village.

The 19-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene in a property in Long Hide, Leaden Roding.
