West Brom take goalkeeper search to the Max

West Bromwich Albion are exploring a deal for Bristol City goalkeeper Max O’Leary.

Albion lost 5-0 to Norwich City this week as new boss Eric Ramsay took charge and he is looking to remedy defensive frailties immediately.

Republic of Ireland international O’Leary is viewed as someone who can bring competition and experience to the squad.

The 29-year-old missed the first few months of season following surgery on ankle injury and has been predominantly kept out by the excellent form of Radek Vitek, who is on loan from Manchester United. O’Leary was outstanding last season and was an ever-present as City made the play-offs.

He returned for five games over Christmas while Vitek was injured but coach Gerhard Struber admitted: ‘He is, of course, with his last season and with his performance, he knows that he normally is a Championship goalkeeper with game time, and he’s not happy with that, that he’s in the end the No2 here.’
