Terror alert raised after Trump obliterates Iran’s nuclear sites

The US terror threat has been heightened following President Trump’s strikes on three key Iranian nuclear sites overnight as Tehran weighs up its response.

The National Terrorism Advisory System warned of ‘violent extremists and hate crime perpetrators seeking to attack targets’ in retaliation to Trump’s 30,000lb ‘bunker buster’ bomb raid on Saturday night.

It came as Israel followed Trump’s strikes with a fresh barrage of missile fire hours later, striking several military facilities on Sunday morning including the key Imam Hussein Strategic Missile Command Center in Yazd.

After Trump shocked the world by wading into the conflict, Iran has begun preparing to close the Strait of Hormuz in a move that would throw global oil and gas markets into chaos.

Top US officials urged Iran not to strike US military targets in response to its attacks, with Vice President JD Vance declaring: ‘We’re not at war with Iran. We’re at war with Iran’s nuclear program.’

President Trump had previously given himself a two-week deadline to decide on whether to strike Iran, before launching ‘Operation Midnight Hammer’ on Saturday night, sending a fleet of B-2 bombers to key nuclear sites.

The US strikes included 14 bunker-buster bombs, more than two dozen Tomahawk missiles and over 125 military aircraft, which targeted three critical sites.

Officials admitted that it is ‘way too early’ to say whether Iran still retains some nuclear capabilities, with sources saying the deep underground Fordow site was not entirely destroyed in the operation.

World leaders condemned Trump’s decision to wade into the conflict, with Chinese President Xi Jinping saying Trump ‘violated’ international peace, and the UK’s Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer urged for a de-escalation of tensions.

Breaking:US officials raise terror threat alert

The National Terrorism Advisory System has warned of a ‘heightened threat environment in the United States’ following President Trump’s strikes on Iran.

The alert, first reported by CBS News, said there is a heightened threat that ‘the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict could motivate violent extremists and hate crime perpetrators seeking to attack targets.’

The bulleting further added that there is a risk of ‘low level cyber attacks against US networks by pro-Iranian hacktivists.’

US law enforcement has ‘disrupted multiple potentially lethal Iranian-backed plots in the United States since 2020’, the advisory said.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem acknowledges that Trump’s strikes on Iran increase terror threat

Department of Homeland Security Chief Kristi Noem acknowledged that President Trump’s strikes on Iran raised the threat of terroristic retaliation.

In a statement to the Daily Mail, Noem said: ‘It is our duty to keep the nation safe and informed, especially during times of conflict.

‘The ongoing Israel-Iran conflict brings the possibility of increased threat to the homeland in the form of possible cyberattacks, acts of violence, and antisemitic hate crimes.’

It comes after the National Terrorism Advisory System warned of a ‘heightened threat environment in the United States’ following President Trump’s strikes on Iran.

James Blair, the Deputy White House Chief of Staff, warned rogue Rep. Thomas Massie that he is in his ‘last term in Congress’ after the congressman turned on President Trump over his strikes on Iran.

The inflammatory X post came after Massie slammed Trump’s actions on three Iranian nuclear sites as ‘not constitutional.’

Last week, Massie was among those pushing for Congress to act before the president engaged the U.S. in a military conflict, which he ultimately did so on Saturday night.

Massie, the first member of the president’s party to condemn the strikes, joined forces with California Democrat Ro Khanna to introduce the Iran War Powers Resolution in the House of Representatives ‘to prohibit U.S. involvement in the Israel-Iran war.’

‘This is not our war. But if it were, Congress must decide such matters according to our constitution,’ he wrote last week.

Nine killed in Israel’s strikes that followed Trump’s bunker buster raid

Iran said that nine people were killed in Israeli strikes on Sunday morning that followed President Trump’s attack on three Iranian nuclear sites.

Iran’s news agency Fars said all nine of the deceased worked for its security forces, including seven members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, in the city of Yadz.

The strikes in Yadz came hours after eleven people were also injured in the US strikes on nuclear enrichment facilities at Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan.

A ‘number of countries’ are ready to supply Iran with nuclear warheads after its nuclear facilities were attacked by the US, Russian ex-president Dmitriy Medvedev has claimed.

In a post on X early on Sunday, Medvedev suggested that the US strikes on three sites in Isfahan, Natanz, and Fordow had backfired and led to the opposite result from what US President Donald Trump had set out to achieve.

In a taunting post, Medvedev claimed: ‘Enrichment of nuclear material — and, now we can say it outright, the future production of nuclear weapons — will continue.’

Medvedev, who has served as President of Russia from 2008 to 2012, further stated that ‘Iran’s political regime has survived — and in all likelihood, has come out even stronger’.

He continued to claim that Iranians are ‘rallying around the country’s spiritual leadership, including those who were previously indifferent or opposed to it’.

His anti-US and pro-Iran social media rant was posted in English and broken down into ten points – gathering more than three million views.

Pope Leo XIV urges world leaders to de-escalate as he breaks his silence on Middle East crisis

Pope Leo XIV urged world leaders to de-escalate the conflict with Iran as the holy leader broke his silence on the US strikes.

‘War does not solve problems; on the contrary, it amplifies them and inflicts deep wounds on the history of peoples, which take generations to heal,’ the pope, Chicago-born Robert Prevost, said Sunday.

‘No armed victory can compensate for the pain of mothers, the fear of children, or stolen futures. May diplomacy silence the weapons!

‘May nations chart their futures with works of peace, not with violence and bloodstained conflicts!’

Eleven injured in US strikes, Iran says

Eleven people were injured in the US strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites on Saturday night, Iran’s Red Crescent Society said.

Four of the injured remain in hospital.

Hossein Kermanpour, the spokesman for the Ministry of Health, said that after assessing the injured, ‘fortunately none of the people admitted to the clinics had radioactive contamination.’

Khamenei ‘snubbed Trump’ when president tried to set up key diplomatic talks before strikes

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei reportedly snubbed Donald Trump last week when the president worked to set up diplomatic talks.

Insiders told Axios that Trump was hoping to set up peace talks in Turkey a week ago, and even offered to fly there personally for one-on-one discussions with the Iranian leader.

But Khamenei spurned the offer, with sources saying he went into hiding and couldn’t be reached for hours by his top officials before he ultimately rejected the proposal.

Trump had reportedly been speaking with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to coordinate the high-level talks, and hoped to use him as a middle-man to negotiate with the Iranians.

Erdogan communicated Trump’s offer to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, but the Iranian counterparts then couldn’t get hold of Khamenei for his sign-off for some time.

Sources said that Turkish officials waited some time before eventually informing the US that the talks in Turkey were off.

The report comes as Trump expressed his frustration with Iran slow-rolling negotiations in the days before he decided to strike three nuclear sites on Saturday night.

This handout picture released by the office of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei shows him speaking to members of Iran's air force in Tehran on February 7, 2025. Khamenei on February 7 urged his government not to negotiate with the United States, saying it would be

Khanna, Massie join Face The Nation after Trump’s Saturday Iran strikes

Congressmen Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) and Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) appeared toagther on CBS’ Face The Nation Sunday morning.

The duo introduced the War Powers Resolution in the House of Representatives last week.

‘Congress was on vacation last week when all this was happening…We haven’t been briefed. They should’ve called us all back and, frankly, we should’ve debated this War Powers Resolution,’ Massie told moderator Margaret Brennan.

European leaders beg Iran for diplomacy

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz called on Iran’s leaders to enter negotiations and ‘not to take any further action that could destabilize the region.’

In a joint statement after holding talks Sunday, they said: ‘We will continue our joint diplomatic efforts to defuse tensions and ensure the conflict does not intensify and spread further.’

The three leaders stressed that ‘Iran can never have a nuclear weapon and can no longer pose a threat to regional security,’ and affirmed support for Israel’s security, but stopped short of endorsing the American strikes.

Just a day before the U.S. struck, top diplomats from the three countries and the European Union met Iran’s foreign minister in an attempt to find a diplomatic way to end the conflict with Israel and ease tensions over Tehran’s nuclear program.

New high-resolution images have revealed the damage three Iranian nuclear sites sustained in the B-2 bombings on Saturday night.

Before and after images from Maxar Technologies show multiple buildings at the Isfahan Nuclear Technology Centre were destroyed by targeted strikes.

The facility had previously been hit twice by Israel before it was targeted by the US.

At the Fordow facility, a key underground site used to enrich uranium, six craters could be seen where 30,000lb ‘bunker buster’ bombs were dropped.

Top Intel Democrat says he only found out about Trump’s strikes online

Congressman Jim Himes, the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, slammed President Trump’s handling of the strikes overnight as he admitted he only found out about them online.

Himes told CNN’s State of the Union that Trump did not loop in Congress before the strikes, which he described as a ‘massive, massive gamble.’

The rep cast further doubt on Trump’s assessment that the strikes were necessary because Iran was on the brink of developing a nuclear weapon.

‘I had not seen any intelligence as a member of the Gang of Eight to suggest that Iran had taken the decision to build a weapon, I don’t think there’s any intelligence out there that suggests that that’s true,’ he said.

Breaking:US Embassy in Beirut orders staff to flee over ‘volatile and unpredictable security situation’

The US Embassy in Beirut has ordered all non-emergency personnel and their family members to leave Lebanon.

The order cited the ‘volatile and unpredictable security situation in the region’, hours after President Trump issued strikes on Iranian nuclear sites.

The embassy also urged all Americans in Lebanon to monitor the news for updates as the world waits for Iran’s response.

President Trump breaks his silence on response to his strikes on Iran

President Trump broke his silence on Sunday as he declared that the United States is ‘doing GREAT’ after his strikes on Iran.

The president shared a post to his Truth Social platform with his first message since he addressed the nation on Saturday night to announce the strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites.

‘Great unity in the Republican Party, perhaps unity like we have never seen before,’ he said.

‘Now let’s get the Great, Big, Beautiful Bill done. Our Country is doing GREAT. MAGA!’

IDF releases video of targeted air strikes in Iran on Sunday morning

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) released shocking footage showing targeted air strikes on Sunday morning.

The IDF said approximately 30 fighter jets struck dozens of targets. including the “Imam Hussein” Strategic Missile Command Center in Yazd, where long-range Khorramshahr missiles were stored.

The cities of Isfahan, Bushehr, and Ahvaz were also struck in the bombings, where the IDF said it took out missile launchers, military sites involved in the production of aerial defense batteries, the ‘Third Brigade’ UAV command center, a UAV storage facility near the command center, and soldiers loading missile launchers.

The attacks came hours after President Trump struck three key Iranian nuclear sites overnight.

Marco Rubio: The prospect of peace is in Iran’s court

It’s now up to Iran to decide if they want peace, Secretary of State Marco Rubio claimed on Sunday.

After the U.S. carried out attacks on three separate nuclear facilities, the U.S. is trying to bring down the termperature of the conflict.

‘If the regime wants peace, we’re ready for peace,’ Rubio insisted in an interview on CBS’s Face the Nation program on Sunday morning.

He warned: ‘If they want to do something else, they’re incredibly vulnerable. They can’t even protect their own air space.’

Rubio warned Iran against strikes on countries in the region that host American military bases.

‘That’s exactly why they are there,’ Rubio said of their presence in the Middle East.

‘All those bases are there because those countries are afraid Iran will attack them,’ he explained. ‘Those bases are there because those countries are terified.’

United Nations set to hold emergency meeting in response to US strikes

The United Nations Security Council is set to convene an emergency meeting to discuss the US strikes on Iran.

The emergency meeting was requested by Iran and will be held at 3pm Eastern time.

The council has previously held two emergency meetings on the Israel – Iran conflict in the past week, with all members except for the United States calling for an immediate ceasefire.

Vice President J.D. Vance praised U.S. pilots for hitting a target the size of ‘a washing machine’ halfway across the world in their audacious attack on Iranian nuclear sites.

‘It’s really an incredible operation, a testament to the power of American military, Vance said on NBC’s Meet the Press. ‘These guys flew from Missouri. They didn’t land a single time.’

The veep made the remarks as he hit the Sunday morning television circuit to provide more details around the unprecedented U.S. military strikes targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities, asserting there was no interest in deploying U.S. boots on the ground for a protracted conflict.

‘They dropped 30,000-pound bombs on a target the size of a washing machine and then got back home safely without ever landing in the Middle East or ever stopping other than to briefly refuel … And, of course, they did that in the air,’ the vice president continued.

He said the U.S. ‘substantially delayed’ Iran’s nuclear program, but said he would not get into ‘sensitive intelligence’ when pressed by host Kristen Welker on how many years the program would be set back.

Vice President JD Vance issued a no-nonsense warning to Iran if the country decides to attack the US.

On Sunday morning, Vance, who said the US is ‘not at war’ with Iran, explained that if the nation decides to retaliate ‘they are going to be met with overwhelming force.’

‘I don’t think the president could be clearer about this,’ Vance told ABC News’ Jonathan Karl.

‘If you look at what we did yesterday John – we did not attack the nation of Iran, we did not attack any civilian targets, we didn’t even attack military targets outside of the three nuclear weapons facilities that we thought were important to accomplish our goal of preventing Iran from having a nuclear weapon,’ he continued.

Vance went on to say that it is now up to Iran on what happens next, adding ‘that the ball is in their court.’

‘But if you look at what we did, it was very precise, very narrowly tailored to our objective. And if the Iranians decide to expand this then that’s ultimately their decision, and the president of the United States will respond in kind.’

‘Other countries agree with us’, Rubio declares

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio brushed off criticism from world leaders over the strikes on Iranian nuclear sites as he claims they secretly agree with them.

‘A bunch of these countries putting out statements condemning us, privately, they all agree with us that this needed to be done,’ Rubio told Fox News on Sunday morning.

‘They got to do what they got to do for their own public relations purposes. But the only people in the world that are unhappy about what happened in Iran last night is the regime in Iran.’

Marco Rubio warns Iran of even bigger strikes if they retaliate against U.S.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned Iran against any retaliatory attacks on the U.S. or Americans in the region following Saturday’s strikes.

‘If they attack us, then I think we have capabilities they haven’t even seen yet,’ Rubio told Fox host Maria Bartiromo in an interview Sunday morning.

He added: ‘It would be a terrible mistake on their part. And, franky, it’s not what we hope for, or wish.’

Israel strikes Iranian port city of Bushehr

Israel confirmed on Sunday that it has struck the Iranian port city of Bushehr, which hosts the nation’s only functioning nuclear power plant.

The city in the Persian Gulf was bombarded with missile fire, and Iranian state media said explosions were heard in the southwest of the city.

The IDF did not mention targeting the nuclear plant, but said the strikes on Bushehr were followed by further attacks on the cities of Isfahan and Ahvaz.

Top Senator predicts U.S. troops won’t be deployed to Iran

Senator Lindsey Graham said he doesn’t think there will be U.S. troops on the ground in Iran following Saturday’s three-strike attack.

‘I don’t think I see boots on the ground in our future, but I do see Israel not stopping,’ Graham told NBC Meet the Press host Kristen Welker on Sunday.

‘Israel is not going to live this way anymore,’ the Republican lawmaker and Trump ally added. ‘They’re not going to be subject to missile attack every day and every night, living in bunkers.’

They’re going to go after the heart of this regime. They’re going to take it down one of two ways: make it change or replace it.

The South Carolina senator insisted on Tuesday that ‘the men and women who serve’ would risk their lives to ‘stop the Ayatollah from having a nuclear weapon.’

‘I can guarantee you that if the Ayatollah gets a nuclear weapon, he will use it,’ Graham stated.

Marco Rubio contradicts White House as he floats regime change in Iran

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio contradicted other top Trump administration officials on Sunday morning as he floated regime change in Iran.

Rubio told Fox News that ‘if Iran is committed to becoming a nuclear weapons power, I do think it puts the regime at risk. I think it would be the end of the regime.’

His remarks came after Vice President JD Vance said on Meet the Press, ‘We don’t want a regime change’ in Iran.

Pentagon Sec. Hegseth similarly said Sunday during a press conference at the Pentagon: ‘This mission was not, has not been about regime change.’

China leads international condemnation of US strikes on Iran

A spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry condemned the US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites and said it ‘exacerbates tensions in the Middle East.’

‘China calls on the parties to the conflict, especially Israel, to cease fire as soon as possible, ensure the safety of civilians, and start dialogue and negotiations,’ the nation said.

‘China is willing to work with the international community to pool efforts, uphold justice, and make efforts to restore peace and stability in the Middle East.’

World leaders urged President Trump to cool off the conflict, with Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba saying ‘a de-escalation as soon as possible is more important than anything.’

‘We are closely monitoring the situation there with grave concern,’ he said Sunday morning.

Breaking:Israel strikes multiple sites in Iran hours after Trump’s ‘bunker buster’ bomb raid

Israel followed President Trump’s bomb raid on key Iranian nuclear sites by striking several military facilities on Sunday morning.

One major target claimed by the Israelis was the Imam Hussein Strategic Missile Command Center in Yazd.

Other strikes targeted missile launchers in Ahvaz, Bushehr and Isfahan, Israel said.

The extent of the damage from the strikes is not yet clear.

Iranian parliament has approved the closure of the Strait of Hormuz in a move which could see the world thrown into disaster.

The decision to close the Strait, through which around 20 percent of global oil and gas demand flows, is not yet final.

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council must still make the final call on the matter, Iran’s Press TV said today.

But lawmaker and Revolutionary Guards Commander Esmail Kosari told the Young Journalist Club that doing so is on the agenda and ‘will be done whenever necessary’.

Last weekend, Kowsari told local media that closing the Strait of Hormuz ‘is under consideration, and Iran will make the best decision with determination’.

The Strait is a pivotal trade route for the world, with around a fifth of the world’s oil flowing through the tiny sea passage, along with the same proportion of all Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), making it the ‘world’s most important oil transit chokepoint’.

But Kowsari said Iran was not limiting its options in dealing with Israel, telling local media last week: ‘Our hands are wide open when it comes to punishing the enemy, and the military response was only part of our overall response.’

Trade Gerrit Heinemann told Bild that should Iran choose to close the Strait, which borders the country, the results would be ‘catastrophic.

Top Democrat questions Trump’s intelligence on Iran’s nuclear capabilities

Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy has raised doubt over President Trump’s assessment that Iran was on the brink of developing nuclear weapons.

The Democrat said on X following Trump’s strikes on Iranian nuclear sites that he was told the nation was not close to developing a nuclear weapon when he was ‘briefed on the intelligence last week.’

‘Iran posed no imminent threat of attack to the United States,’ he said.

‘Iran was not close to building a deliverable nuclear weapon. The negotiations Israel scuttled with their strikes held the potential for success.’

UK Prime Minister Kier Starmer says he is ‘focused on de-escalation’

British Prime Minister Kier Starmer said he is working to de-escalate the conflict with Iran as he refused to say if he would aid US military action.

Starmer said the movement of military resources to the Middle East was intended to protect British interests in the region.

‘I’m not going to speculate about what may happen, because all of my focus is on de-escalation,’ he said when asked about the moves.

Vance says US is ‘not at war with Iran’ after overnight B-2 bomber raid

The US is ‘not at war’ with Iran after striking three key nuclear sites on Saturday night, Vice President JD Vance says.

Vance told NBC’s Meet the Press that while the US is not in an active war against Iran, ‘we are at war with Iran’s nuclear program.’

‘We’re incredibly grateful and proud of the American Air Force pilots who did an incredible job last night,’ he continued.

‘The operation was really extraordinary. These guys flew from Missouri. They didn’t land a single time.’

White House still retains hopes of peace deal with Iran, JD Vance says

Vice President JD Vance said that the overnight strikes on Iranian nuclear sites ‘didn’t blow up’ the chance at a diplomatic solution.

Vance told NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday that negotiations with Iran had stalled in weeks before the conflict with Israel was ignited, and hopes that the US strikes could be a ‘reset.’

‘The Iranians can go down the path of peace or they can go down the path of this ridiculous brinksmanship of funding terrorism, of trying to build a nuclear weapon and that’s just not something the United States can accept,’ Vance said.

‘We retained the element of surprise:’ Caine reveals Iran didn’t fire a single shot at US jets during attack

Speaking to the media at the Pentagon Sunday morning, Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine said that no shots were taken at US personnel or fighter jets as they carried out the strikes on Iranian nuclear sites Saturday.

‘We retained the element of surprise throughout the operation. Following weapons release, the ‘Midnight Hammer’ strike package exited Iranian airspace, and the package began its return home.’

‘We are unaware of any shots fired at the package on the way out. Iran’s fighters did not fly, and it appears that Iran’s surface to air missile systems did not see us.’

Recovery of Israeli hostage bodies jolts focus in the Middle East

Israel said on Sunday morning it has recovered the bodies of three Israeli hostages who were taken captive by Hamas.

The announcement shifted focus in Israel back to clashes with Hamas, which had been overshadowed by the recent escalation of its conflict with Iran.

The hostages were named as civilians Yonatan Samerano and Ofra Keidar, and Israeli soldier Shay Levinson.

The three men were all killed by Hamas in its brutal attacks on October 7, 2023.

JD Vance slams media ‘attacks’ on Trump’s team

US Vice President JD Vance praised President Trump’s team in a statement on Sunday morning as he slammed media ‘attacks’ on their Iran strikes.

Vance said in an X post that he has ‘two thoughts’ the morning after three key Iranian nuclear sites were hit.

‘The operation last night is an incredible testament to American pilots and other service members, from General Caine and General Kurilla on down,’ Vance said.

‘While the media has attacked the president’s senior team relentlessly, and tried to sow fake division, last night would have been impossible without perfect coordination and discretion from the president’s national security team.

‘I’m incredibly proud of them, and I know the president is, too.’

It is ‘way too early’ to say whether Iran’s nuclear capabilities have been wiped out, US officials say

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine admitted it is ‘way too early’ to say whether Iran’s nuclear capabilities were destroyed in the overnight strikes.

Caine said he couldn’t comment on the exact level of damage that Iran sustained.

He spoke after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth praised the operation as having had ‘the desired effect.’

‘The battle damage assessment is ongoing, but our initial assessment … is that all of our precision munitions struck where we wanted them to strike and had the desired effect,’ Hegseth said.

He warned Iran against taking any retaliatory steps, saying it ‘would be a very bad idea for Iran or its proxies to attempt to attack American forces.’

UAE urges Trump to de-escalate conflict and avoid ‘devastating consequences’

The United Arab Emirates urged President Trump to ‘immediately’ de-escalate the conflict with Iran to avoid ‘devastating consequences.’

The nation, which hosts a US military base and borders Iran, called on Trump to ‘spare the region from being pulled into deeper’ conflict.

It added that the White House should draw ‘lessons from the region’s historical experiences and past conflicts.’

Former UFC Champion Sean Strickland stunningly turned on Donald Trump following the United States’ strike on Iranian nuclear sites.

While Trump declared the strike a ‘spectacular military success,’ some of his loyal supporters appeared to condemn them.

Strickland, who backed the president in the buildup to last year’s election, risked the wrath of the UFC and CEO Dana White by mocking Trump on social media.

‘Israel “jump” Trump “how high”,’ the American fighter posted on X Saturday night, seemingly suggesting that the president was being puppeteered by Israel.

B-2 strikes on Fordo enrichment site did not destroy facility, insiders say

The US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites severely damaged the nation’s nuclear capabilities, but did not entirely destroy a key facility.

Sources told the New York Times that the B-2 strikes on Iran’s facility in Fordo – a uranium enrichment site buried deep underground – did not entirely destroy the site.

It comes despite top US officials praising the operation as a success.

Top U.S. military officials revealed the historic strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities utilized a massive deception effort, including the use of ‘decoy’ planes that allowed the actual bombers to go ‘completely undetected.’

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth revealed details of the covert operation at a Sunday morning press conference, where he described the strikes as ‘bold’ and ‘brilliant.’

‘Our B-2s went in and out and back without the world knowing at all,’ Hegseth said. The attacks represented the largest B-2 bomber strikes carried out in history.

‘A large B-2 strike package comprised of bombers launched from the continental United States as part of a plan to maintain tactical surprise part of the package proceeded to the west and into the Pacific as a decoy, a deception effort known only to an extremely small number of climbers and key leaders here in Washington,’ Hegseth said.

Officials said the covert tactics meant the Iranian military did not fire a shot at the B-2 bombers or fighter jet escorts.

‘This is most certainly not open-ended’ Hegseth said.

He added that Trump ‘will continue to focus’ on Iran as he left open the possibility of further strikes.

He said the mission was to ‘destroy or severely degrade Iran’s nuclear programme’ and called it ‘an incredible and overwhelming success’.

‘We devastated the Iranian nuclear programme. It’s worth noting the operation did not target the Iranian troops or the Iranian people,’ he continued.

‘Iran’s nuclear ambitions have been obliterated. Many presidents have dreamed of delivering the final blow to Iran’s nuclear programme. And none could – until President Trump.’

President Donald Trump addresses the nation after attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities

By Victoria Churchill, U.S. Political Reporter In Washington, D.C.

President Donald Trump surprised the world a little before 8 p.m. ET Saturday by announcing on Truth Social that he had given the go-ahead to attack Iran.

He used six massive 30,000-pound ‘bunker buster’ bombs and 30 Tomahawk missiles to destroy Fordow, Natanz and Esfahan.

Trump addressed the nation hours later, calling Saturday’s strikes on a trio of Iranian nuclear sites a ‘spectacular military success.’

He also gave a stark warning to Tehran that more attacks would be coming if the regime didn’t make peace.

‘Our objective was the destruction of Iran’s nuclear enrichment capacity and a stop to the nuclear threat posed by the world’s number one state sponsor of terror. Tonight, I can report to the world that the strikes were a spectacular military success.’

Trump used SIX bunker buster bombs and 30 Tomahawk missiles to ‘obliterate’ Iran’s nuclear sites

Donald Trump has confirmed he ‘completely obliterated’ Iran’s Fordow nuclear site with six massive 30,000-pound ‘bunker buster’ bombs.

Two other nuclear sites in Iran were also ‘wiped out’ with 30 Tomahawk missiles launched from U.S. submarines 400 miles away.

The details were revealed by Sean Hannity of Fox News, who spoke to the president shortly after the strikes.

Top Republican turns on Trump after ‘unconstitutional’ strikes on Iran

Members of Donald Trump’s MAGA base rushed to embrace the president following his announcement that he ordered strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities – while a House Republican came forward to call it unlawful.

‘This is not Constitutional,’ wrote Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), who Trump has called to be thrown out of office over his opposition to his ‘big, beautiful bill’ for adding to the nation’s accumulated debt.

Last week, Massie was among those pushing for Congress to act before the president engaged the U.S. in a military conflict, with plans to introduce a resolution under the War Powers Act.

Speaker Mike Johnson backs Trump’s strikes on Iran

Mike Johnson, the Republican House Speaker, said:

The military operations in Iran should serve as a clear reminder to our adversaries and allies that President Trump means what he says. The President gave Iran’s leader every opportunity to make a deal, but Iran refused to commit to a nuclear disarmament agreement.

The President’s decisive action prevents the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism, which chants “Death to America,” from obtaining the most lethal weapon on the planet. This is America First policy in action. God bless our brave men and women in uniform – the most lethal fighting force on the planet – as we pray for their safe return home. May God bless America.

Iranian media confirms strikes on nuclear facilities

Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency has acknowledged the attack on the Fordo nuclear facility.

Quoting a statement from Iran’s Qom province, IRNA said: ‘A few hours ago, when Qom air defenses were activated and hostile targets were identified, part of the Fordo nuclear site was attacked by enemies.’

The semiofficial Fars news agency, also close to the Guard, quoted another official saying air defenses opened fire near Isfahan and explosions had been heard.

Trump isn’t planning any more strikes, sources say

President Trump is hoping the strikes on three nuclear sites will push Iran back to negotiations, sources familiar with the matter have said.

It is believed he is not planning any more strikes and sees the steps taken on Saturday as ‘necessary’ to end the war.

However, American forces in the region are prepared for further retaliation.

Two months ago I was sitting in a hotel in Tel Aviv, where I wrote the following words. ‘According to several senior political, military and diplomatic sources, the United States and Israel are preparing to launch a strike on Iran that will finally eradicate the threat posed by the country’s nuclear weapons programme.’

“This should have been avoided a long time ago,” a senior Israeli government source told me. “It’s time to draw a line.”’

I knew in April the finishing touches were being put to what Benjamin Netanyahu dubbed Operation Rising Lion. Tehran knew. Washington knew. The global diplomatic community knew.

What are the risks of the strikes?

The decision to directly involve the US comes after more than a week of strikes by Israel on Iran that have moved to systematically eradicate the country’s air defenses and offensive missile capabilities, while damaging its nuclear enrichment facilities.

The strikes are a perilous decision for the US as Iran has pledged to retaliate if it joined the Israeli assault.

It is also a risk for Trump personally, who won the White House on the promise of keeping America out of costly foreign conflicts and scoffed at the value of American interventionism.

Iran threatens ‘more devastating’ response to Israel’s attacks

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian warned Saturday of a ‘more devastating’ retaliation should Israel’s nine-day bombing campaign continue, saying the Islamic republic would not halt its nuclear programme ‘under any circumstances’.

Israel said on Saturday it had killed three more Iranian commanders in its unprecedented offensive, and Foreign Minister Gideon Saar claimed Tehran’s alleged progress towards a nuclear weapon had been set back by two years.

‘We will do everything that we can do there in order to remove this threat’ Saar told the German newspaper Bild, adding that Israel would keep up its onslaught.

Israel and Iran have traded wave after wave of devastating strikes since Israel launched its aerial campaign on June 13, saying Tehran was on the verge of developing a nuclear weapon.

On Saturday, Israel said it had attacked Iran’s Isfahan nuclear site for a second time, with the UN nuclear watchdog reporting that a centrifuge manufacturing workshop had been hit.

Later Saturday Iran’s Mehr news agency said Israel had launched strikes on the southern city of Shiraz, which hosts military bases.

And early Sunday, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard announced that a ‘vast’ wave of ‘suicide drones’ had been launched against ‘strategic targets’ across Israel.

Iran denies seeking an atomic bomb, and on Saturday Pezeshkian said its right to pursue a civilian nuclear programme ‘cannot be taken away… by threats or war’.

Nuclear complex in Eshafan has been targeted for a second time during Israel’s attacks on Iran

A large nuclear complex in Esfahan has been targeted for a second time during Israel’s attacks on Iran over the past nine days, with several more buildings struck, Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said today.

The site in central Iran was first hit on June 13. No increase of off-site radiation levels was reported.

The IAEA said that six buildings at the same site had also been attacked today.

‘This nuclear complex in Esfahan – one of the key sites of the Iranian nuclear programme – has repeatedly been attacked and extensively damaged. Based on our analysis of the nuclear material present, we don’t see any risk of off-site contamination. Nevertheless, as I have repeatedly stated, nuclear facilities should never be attacked,’ Director General Grossi said.

The Israeli military has launched a fresh wave of strikes on Saturday in the area of southern Iran’s Bandar Abbas, targeting drones storage sites and a weapons facility.

Israeli forces are ‘currently striking UAV storage facilities and a weapons facility in southwestern Iran in the area of Bandar Abbas,’ a military statement said.

Iran’s Tasnim news agency said air defences were active in the country’s south after detecting Israeli enemy aircraft, with batteries responding in Bandar Lengeh and Bandar Abbas.

For more than a week Israel has been carrying out waves of air attacks on Iranian targets in the arch foes’ worst confrontation to date.

Iran has fired back with waves of ballistic missiles aimed at Israeli cities, with a hospital, apartment blocks and a refinery struck by the counterstrikes.

RAF Typhoon jets from Akrotiri were used to defend Israel from Iranian drone and missile attacks last year, although they have not been involved in the current fighting between the two Middle East rivals.

He is alleged to have lived in a flat in Zakai, Limassol, close to Akrotiri and was observed near the base carrying a camera with a long lens and three mobile phones.

Local reports suggested he was Azerbaijani but the UK Foreign Office said they were working with the authorities over the arrest of a Briton.

Former Hezbollah leader’s bodyguard killed in Iran

The head of security to the late Hezbollah leader, Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an Israeli airstrike while in Iran, a Hezbollah official said Saturday.

Abu Ali Khalil, better known as Abu Ali Jawad, was killed after he went to Iran from neighboring Iraq, the official said.

For many years, Abu Ali was seen behind Nasrallah during most of his public appearances.

After Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli airstike in a Beirut suburb in September, his bodyguard was put in charge of his tomb in Beirut.

Houthis ‘will target US ships’ if Trump drags country into war with Iran

Yemen’s Houthis have said that they will target US ships in the Red Sea if it gets involved in Israeli attacks on Iran.

The group, which has repeatedly targeted British and American ships during the conflict in Gaza, has now threatened once again to hit US boats.

The Houthis are widely considered to be funded by Iran.

In May, the US and the Houthis agreed to a ceasefire under which neither side would target the other.

Deadly stealth bombers, which only the US has in their arsenal, are on their way to a US Air Force base in Guam amid growing tensions with Iran, according to reports.

Six B-2 stealth bombers, docked at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri, appeared to be on the move on Saturday morning, according to Fox News.

The bombers are said to have been refueled, which means they could have launched without full tanks due to the extraordinarily heavy bunker-buster bombs.

The B-2 is capable of carrying a 30,000-pound bomb, which experts have concluded could be the only way to destroy Iran’s most heavily fortified nuclear site, Fordo.

The bomb, known as the GBU-57 or the Massive Ordinance Penetrator, is something only the US military possesses.

European proposals on nuclear programme for Israel-Iran ceasefire ‘unrealistic’, Iran says

A senior Iranian official said on Saturday that proposals put forward by European powers at talks in Geneva about his country’s nuclear programme were ‘unrealistic’, suggesting that if they stuck to them it would be difficult to reach an accord.

There were few signs of progress on Friday after the foreign ministers of Britain, France and Germany, known as the E3, plus the EU met their Iranian counterpart in a bid to prevent the conflict between Israel and Iran from escalating.

‘The discussions and proposals made by the Europeans in Geneva were unrealistic. Insisting on these positions will not bring Iran and Europe closer to an agreement,’ the senior official told Reuters, while speaking on condition of anonymity.

‘In any case, Iran will review the European proposals in Tehran and present its responses in the next meeting,’ the official said.

Both sides signalled on Friday their readiness to keep talking, although no new date was set.

European diplomats said Friday’s talks had been aimed at testing Tehran’s willingness to negotiate a new nuclear deal despite there being no obvious prospect of Israel halting its attacks soon.

While neither side disclosed details of what was put forward, two European diplomats said the E3 did not believe that Israel would accept a ceasefire in the near term and that it would be difficult for Iran and the US to resume negotiations.

‘No nuclear material’ at sit hit by Israel, IAEA says – as first photos show scale of damage

The UN nuclear agency confirmed on Saturday that a centrifuge manufacturing workshop at Iran’s Isfahan nuclear site had been hit, in the latest strike amid Israel’s bombing campaign.

It said there was ‘no nuclear material’ at the site hit by Israel, meaning there are no concerns about radiological consequences.

‘A centrifuge manufacturing workshop has been hit in Esfahan, the third such facility that has been targeted in Israel’s attacks on Iran’s nuclear-related sites over the past week,’ the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said in a statement quoting its chief Rafael Grossi.

‘We know this facility well. There was no nuclear material at this site and therefore the attack on it will have no radiological consequences,’ Grossi was quoted as saying.

Thousands of pro-Palestine protesters have marched through Central London today yellow ‘shame on you’ and ‘stop bombing Iran’ at pro-Israeli counter-demo.

Demonstrators were heading to Whitehall from Russell Square in central London and waved Palestinian flags and chanted ‘free, free Palestine,’ ‘occupation no more, ‘Israel is a terrorist state,’ and ‘stop bombing Iran’.

Campaigners gathered in large numbers under the banner of the Palestine Coalition.

Many shouted ‘shame on you’ as they passed a group of counter-protesters assembled near Waterloo Bridge by the pro-Israeli group Stop the Hate.

The march, which began around midday in Russell Square, is moving through Aldwych and the Strand before concluding with a rally and speeches in Whitehall.

Where are the American planes headed?

Six B-2 bomber planes are reported to have left the US from a base in Missouri.

They are understood to be on their way to Andersen Air Force base in Guam, which is in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

Why are B-2 bombers so significant?

The B-2 stealth bomber is capable of carrying a 30,000-pound bomb, which experts have concluded could be the only way to destroy Iran’s most heavily fortified nuclear site: Fordo.

The bomb, known as the GBU-57 or the Massive Ordinance Penetrator, is something only the US military possesses.

The Fordo fuel enrichment plant is buried deep within a mountain system in Iran, but experts don’t know exactly how deep, which complicated a potential US mission to neutralize it.

Experts who spoke to The New York Times believe the facility at its shallowest is 250 feet deep, but could be as much as 30 feet deeper.

Nonetheless, GBU-57 is the only way to assuredly wipe out the facility, short of using a nuclear device.

Israel targets nuclear site for second time

Early Saturday, smoke could be seen rising from an area near a mountain in Isfahan, where a local official said Israel had attacked the nuclear research facility in two waves.

The target was two centrifuge production sites, and the attacks came on top of strikes on other centrifuge production sites elsewhere in recent days, according to an Israeli military official speaking on condition of anonymity under army guidelines to brief reporters.

It was the second attack on Isfahan, which was hit in the first 24 hours of the war as part of Israel’s goal to destroy the Iranian nuclear program.

Akbar Salehi, Isfahan province’s deputy governor for security affairs, confirmed the Israeli strikes had caused damage to the facility but said there had been no human casualties.

Iran launched a new wave of drones and missiles at Israel but there were no immediate reports of significant damage, and the Israeli official called it a ‘small barrage’ that was largely intercepted by Israel’s defenses.

‘Iranian spy posing as British tourist’ is arrested for spying on RAF base

An alleged member of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards who claimed he was a British tourist has been arrested on terror charges as he is accused of spying on a British RAF base in Cyprus.

The individual, from Azerbaijan, was arrested by the country’s Anti-Terrorism Squad after receiving intelligence he was planning an imminent terrorist attack from a cooperating foreign service, sources claim.

The man is accused of having the British RAF military base in nearby Akrotiri under surveillance since mid-April, as well as Cyprus’s own Andreas Papandreou Air Base in the western region of Paphos, which is currently also being used by the US. Sources say he was planning an immediate terrorist attack.

Two further arrests linked to the case are said to have been made in the UK in an operation that involves intelligence services, Europol and Interpol.

84 Squadron is based at the British RAF base in Akrotiri, with extra British Typhoon planes being sent to the island in recent weeks as tensions ratchet up across the Middle East.

US will ‘only join Israel in Iran strikes if bunker buster bombs guaranteed to help’

Donald Trump this week told defence officials it would only make sense for the US to join Israel in striking Iran if its ‘bunker buster’ bombs are guaranteed to be able to destroy the key enrichment site at Fordow, according to people familiar with the discussions.

Officials were said to have been told that the US would have to soften the ground with conventional bombs before dropping a tactical nuclear weapon from a B2 Bomber to completely destroy the site, believed to be some 90 metres underground.

He previously said he would give Iran a maximum of two weeks to get back to the negotiating table before possibly joining Israel in strikes.

Israel kills ‘October 7 mastermind’ and two other Iranian commanders in overnight strikes

Israel said on Saturday it had killed a veteran Iranian commander as the countries traded attacks, a day after Tehran said it would not negotiate over its nuclear programme while under threat and Europe tried to keep peace talks alive.

Saeed Izadi, who led the Palestine Corps of the Quds Force, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ overseas arm, was killed in a strike in an apartment in the Iranian city of Qom, said Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz.

Calling his killing a ‘major achievement for Israeli intelligence and the Air Force’, Katz said in a statement that Izadi had financed and armed the Palestinian militant group Hamas ahead of its October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, which triggered the war in Gaza.

The Revolutionary Guards said five of its members had been killed in attacks on Khorramabad, according to Iranian media reports that did not mention Izadi, who was on US and British sanctions lists. The IDF claims to have killed three Iranian commanders overnight.

Israel accused Izadi of being responsible for ‘military coordination between senior commanders in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the Iranian regime, and key figures in the Hamas terror organization.’

The IDF added this was particularly the case before October 7, in which some 1,200 Israelis were killed in a suprise attack by terror group Hamas.

Izadi was said to have helped finance and arm the group as part of a plan to ‘destroy Isreal’.

Izadi, who is under US and British sanctions, was described by the Israeli military as ‘one of the main orchestrators of the October 7th massacre and one of the few people who knew about it in advance’. Iran denies any involvement.

Explosions heard in Iran as state says more than 400 killed

Several ‘powerful explosions’ were heard Saturday afternoon in southwestern Iran’s Ahvaz, the daily Shargh reported, on the ninth day of hostilities between the Islamic republic and Israel.

Ahvaz is the capital of Khuzestan province, which is situated on the Iraqi border and is Iran’s main oil-producing region. The Israeli military had previously announced it was striking ‘military infrastructure’ in the southwest.

It comes as Iran reported that more than 400 people have been killed in the country since June 13, with more than 50 of those being women and children.

Another 3,056 people have been injured, according to state media.

Meanwhile in Israel at least 24 people have been killed in retaliatory strikes.

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has made the remarkable decision to name his potential successors in the event that he is assassinated.

Khamenei, who is hiding out in a bunker, picked an array of leaders to take over both his military and political duties if he is killed in Israeli airstrikes, the New York Times reports.

Tensions in the Mideast region have fired up in recent days – with both Iran and Israel launches barrages of strikes on one another as Donald Trump toys with the decision for US military intervention.

Israel has launched the largest military assault on Iran since the war in Iraq, intensifying the already fragile relationship between the two regions.

Officials told the New York Times that Khamenei is instructing the nation’s Assembly of Experts, the body of government overseeing the supreme leader, to choose his successor from the three names he provided.

Six of the US’s B-2 stealth bombers from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri appear to be en route to a US air force base in Guam, flight tracker data suggests.

The movement of the jets is sigificant as Israel continues its bombing campaign against Iran targeting nuclear and military targets.

The US is the only nation thought to have the ‘bunker-busting’ bombs that would be needed to damage Iran’s deepest nuclear facility, the Fordo plant.

The bombers refueled after launching from Missouri, suggesting they launched without full fuel tanks due to a heavy onboard payload, which could be bomb
