Donald Trump has threatened to blow up Iran’s oil wells and desalination plants unless a deal can be reached to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Writing on his Truth Social platform, the President said the US is in ‘serious discussions’ with a ‘more reasonable regime’ to end the war but said he will take action unless an agreement is made

‘Great progress has been made but, if for any reason a deal is not shortly reached, which it probably will be, and if the Hormuz Strait is not immediately “Open for Business,” we will conclude our lovely “stay” in Iran by blowing up and completely obliterating all of their Electric Generating Plants, Oil Wells and Kharg Island (and possibly all desalinization plants!), which we have purposefully not yet “touched,”’ Trump penned.

The British Defence Ministry says Royal Air Force jets operating in a ‘high-threat area’ in the Middle East successfully downed multiple Iranian drones, without providing further details.

In its daily update on UK military activity in the region, the ministry said UK Typhoons and F-35 jets, together with Wildcat helicopters, continued ‘defensive’ missions overnight over Cyprus, Jordan, Bahrain, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.

It added that UK pilots and aircrew have now exceeded 1,200 flying hours during operations since the conflict began.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has told Saudi Arabia it is ‘high time to eject US forces’.

In a post on X, Araghchi says Iran ‘respects’ Saudi Arabia and considers it a ‘brotherly nation’.

Iran’s operations are aimed at ‘enemy aggressors who have no respect for Arabs or Iranians’, he says.

Araghchi posted his comments alongside a picture that appears to show a destroyed plane with US Air Force markings.

‘Just look at what we did to their aerial command,’ he writes.

Protesters carried Iranian flags and photos of Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed in an airstrike, and were chanting slogans against the US and Israel in Tehran, Iran.

Al Jazeera Arabic has reported that an air strike has targeted a military base used by the Iran-aligned Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) in Iraq’s western town of al-Karma in the province of Anbar.

The United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Defence says its air forces are actively engaging with missiles and UAV (unidentified aerial vehicle) threats.

Sounds being heard across the country are the result of ‘ongoing engaging operations’, the country’s defence ministry says.

It urges the public to ‘remain calm’ and follow ‘safety and security instructions’.

The leaders of wealthy Gulf states, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, as well as key US ally Jordan, held an in-person meeting on Monday to discuss regional tensions and ways to avoid further escalation.

After the summit in the Saudi coastal city of Jeddah, the three leaders put out statements warning that continued Iranian attacks, including strikes on civilian and critical infrastructure, mark a dangerous escalation.

The talks focused on coordinating a regional response, backing diplomatic efforts to ease tensions, and managing the economic fallout of a conflict that has disrupted energy markets and trade routes across the region.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it struck an Israeli container ship that was carrying a flag ‘of a third country,’ according to the semi-official news agency Fars.

Itamar Ben-Gvir was seen wearing a noose-shaped pin as he attended a memorial service held for Ran Gvili, an off-duty police officer who was killed fighting militants that had infiltrated Israel during the deadly October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas.

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) says they have completed a ‘wave of strikes’ in the heart of Iran’s capital, Tehran.

In a post on Telegram, the IDF writes: ‘A short while ago, the IDF completed a wide-scale wave of strikes targeting infrastructure of the Iranian terror regime in the heart of Tehran.’

Iraqi air defences have shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) over the Karkh district of Baghdad.

An Iraqi security source told Al Jazeera several citizens sustained injuries from falling shrapnel following the mid-air destruction of the drone.
