Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt have sparked speculation of a fierce feud following a very awkward interaction on the red carpet.
The actors were caught on camera at the European Premiere of F1 The Movie on Monday night.
In a clip that has been widely circulated on X (formerly Twitter), Tom, 62, and Brad, 61, seemed to be ill at ease as they greeted each other.
Brad – who donned a bottle green suit, cravat and sunglasses – approached Tom in front of paparazzi and opened his arms out at the last moment.
The movement, which was asking for something between a hug and handshake, made for a very awkward moment.
Tom – who wore a sleek, modern two-piece suit in a charcoal gray – stood awkwardly, seemingly unsure how to react and making no move to embrace his fellow actor.
The duo ended up clasping hands before bumping chests in a cringe-worthy interaction.
Brad took a small step back after pulling away before the stars then wrapped their arms around one another and stood side by side.
The uncomfortable clip has been widely circulated, with many fans claiming the social faux pas was a sign of something deeper.
‘Tom not immediately going for a hug oh they hate each otherksjfkfkdkfdkdk,’ the poster tweeted alongside the awkward video.
‘They really don’t like each other I fear LMAO,’ another wrote.
‘He put his arm between them like a shield soooo fast,’ someone observed.
‘Hands near the pockets til the absolute last moment acceptable this is old school diva-ism,’ a user said.
Another admitted: ‘This is hard to watch lmao.’
‘I’m glad we all agree on how to read this situation,’ a person shared.
Others were shocked Tom avoided the hug as he’s usually quick to open his arms.
‘Literally, that’s a sign because he really is a hugger,’ a user explained.
‘And Tom hugs almost everyone, this is crazy,’ another observed.
However, some fierce defenders argued the pair had already hugged earlier that day – tweeting pictures of the embrace.
Though the actors have navigated Hollywood at the same time, they have not often starred alongside each other.
However, the pair famously starred together in the 1994 gothic horror flick Interview with the Vampire, where Cruise played the cold and calculating vampire Lestat, while Pitt portrayed the tortured Louis.
The film was a hit, but there were rumors the two didn’t see eye to eye off camera.
In an interview about the movie, Brad said Tom was the North Pole and he was South, per Closer.
‘There’s a reason they haven’t worked together in 30 years. They clashed so badly when they shot Interview with the Vampire, neither of them has ever been able to move past it,’ a source told the outlet.
‘They play it down publicly, but it’s no secret they can’t stand each other.’
