TikTok trend claims listening to songs at 432Hz can ‘reset your brain’,
Does listening to songs tuned at 432Hz really ‘reset your brain’?
This is what several people are claiming on TikTok, as part of a new trend sweeping the social media app.
‘432 Hz is known to naturally resonate with our body, directly related to the earth & nature,’ one user claimed.
Another added: ‘It calms your mind, aligns your body, and resets your energy field – fast.’
And one said: ‘432Hz vibrates in harmony with your biology to lower cortisol and pull your brain into a state of deep, centered peace. It’s a literal tuning fork for your DNA.’
Now, scientists have weighed in on the trend.
And their analysis will come as bad news for anyone who has been regularly tuning in to the 432Hz frequency.
Writing in The Conversation, Dr Sandra Garrido, a music psychologist at the University of Sydney, said: ‘While 432Hz might sound soothing to some ears, it’s not a shortcut to cosmic alignment.’

The idea that specific frequencies can improve your health is not new, with everyone from the ancient Greeks to the Renaissance thinkers putting forward theories.
However, Dr Garrido says there’s no science to back up this connection.
She explained: ‘Although the concept of cosmic alignment is intriguing, there’s little scientific support for the idea that specific frequencies have any magical effect on wellbeing.’
Instead of being about a single special frequency, the expert says that modern research suggests the effects of sound or music on wellbeing are more about how we perceive and interpret sound.
‘There is some evidence that our physiological systems (such as breathing and heart rate) synchronise to any beat that we hear,’ Dr Garrido said.
‘This can help lower our levels of arousal or alertness.
‘That’s why most of us tend to be attracted to slower, calmer sounding music when we want to relax, for example, since the slower beat helps slow our breathing and heart rate and make us feel sleepier or calmer.’
So, why do some people claim 432Hz is particularly soothing?
According to Dr Garrido, it all comes down to individual preferences and perceptions.
‘Our brains tend to interpret sounds as expressions of emotional states. When humans are relaxed, our voices are usually lower in pitch than when we are excited or agitated,’ she said.

Forget white noise! BROWN noise is the latest trend taking over TikTok – as studies show listening to the sound of cascading waterfalls and rumbling thunder can improve memory, help you focus and soothe tinnitus
‘Thus, notes of a lower pitch are sometimes perceived as more relaxing than notes that are higher pitched.
‘Again, this doesn’t mean there is anything special or magical about 432Hz tunings – just that for many people, lower pitched notes seem calmer. The same effect could be achieved by listening to other music or frequencies with a lower pitch.’
If you do want to relax, Dr Garrido advises focusing on how sounds or music make you feel, rather than the specific frequency.
‘Notice how different sounds make you feel, what slows your breathing, eases your body, or lifts your mood,’ she added.
‘When it comes to wellbeing, what works is what works for you.’
