Tuchel sends message to England boo boys ahead of Japan clash

Thomas Tuchel has asked England fans not to boo Ben White again at Wembley tomorrow night.

The Arsenal defender came off the bench to score against Uruguay on Friday but was jeered by a section of the Wembley fanbase as he made his first England appearance since walking out of camp midway through the 2022 World Cup Finals in Qatar.

England manager Tuchel says he is considering starting White against Japan at Wembley tomorrow night and is hopeful of no repeat.

‘I understand that it [the booing] happened to some other players already for England and hopefully we got it out of our system if he plays in this game,’ said Tuchel.

‘There’s a chance because it would make sense to play a lot of players who have fresh legs and didn’t start the first match and he is one of them.’

White had an eventful night at Wembley as he scored his first ever international goal from a yard but then gave away a late penalty that enabled Uruguay to secure a 1-1 draw.

Ben White was booed by groups of England fans as he made his international return against Uruguay last week

Thomas Tuchel has asked England fans to refrain from booing White again if he starts against Japan on Tuesday

The 28-year-old left camp during the 2022 World Cup after an argument with assistant manager Steve Holland. He was never selected again.

Tuchel said last week he expected him to explain to the handful of current squad members who were there exactly what happened and why.

Asked today if those conversations had taken place, Tuchel said: ‘I guess so. I’m not involved in all the meetings and talks that go on without the coach and I was in a lot of meetings looking at Japan and stuff.

‘So I am not fully aware but I think so – that’s my guess.

‘He was again good in training and good in the group. He has our support and I think he feels our support and the support from the group.’
