Plot to OUST Whoopi Goldberg from The View: Her enemies get political

For nearly two decades, Whoopi Goldberg has been at the helm of the long-running ABC daytime talk show The View.

Since 2007, the EGOT winner has served as moderator on the panel show, leading the cast’s controversial conversations on hot-button topics like paid parental leave and abortion.

Goldberg, 70, has also used her platform to share her disdain towards President Donald Trump and other MAGA politicians.

But Goldberg’s no holds barred approach has landed the Hollywood star in hot water over the years, including a recent comment that compared being a Black American to living in Iran and a bizarre Holocaust remark, for which she received a two-week suspension and later apologized.

As the daytime show prepares to celebrate its milestone 30th season later this year, questions surrounding Goldberg’s future on The View have been looming.

Between the star’s insistence that she can’t afford to retire despite making an estimated salary of $8 million each year, to her public clashes with Republican co-stars and guests, rumors have circulated that this season of The View may be her last.

Rumors have circulated about the EGOT winner’s future on The View amid the star’s recent controversies and on-screen clashes with Republicans

However, according to an inside source who spoke to the Daily Mail, the ‘continued effort’ to oust Goldberg from The View may be coming from those who would benefit the most from her absence.

‘Producers and the ladies believe all the negative talk of turmoil is coming from those in the Trump administration and other Republicans that don’t like the show or the ladies,’ the source exclusively told the Daily Mail.

‘Many believe that a continued effort is being made to put negative news out there to get a reaction and also for them to materialize it to become true,’ they said.

It was previously reported that former co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s return to the show as a guest panelist last March was a ‘strategic’ move by producers to ‘push’ Goldberg off the cast.

Rumors surfaced that the conservative TV personality’s temporary stint on the show was being treated by producers as ‘a test’ for Goldberg and Joy Behar – serving as a warning to the longtime stars that no seat on the panel is permanent.

Still, the source maintained to the Daily Mail that producers won’t be saying goodbye to any of The View’s current cast – which includes Goldberg, Behar and Griffin, as well as Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines and Ana Navarro – any time soon.

‘The ladies are all content with keeping their jobs, and people behind the scenes are happy with how the show is going and having Whoopi at the helm,’ they said.

Perhaps it is Goldberg’s seemingly effortless ability to stoke such controversy that has given The View its highest viewership in five years. A recent report from The Wrap revealed that the show has so far averaged 2.78 million total viewers this year.

Goldberg has famously made a habit of clashing with The View’s Republican panelists, including The View’s current conservative mainstay Alyssa Farah Griffin.

The two engaged in an on-air spat last year when Griffin, who served as the White House communications director during Trump’s first term in 2020, suggested that Democrats should ‘have to be able to talk’ to Trump voters ‘to find areas of agreement.’

When actress and comedian Cheryl Hines appeared on The View last October, Goldberg called out her husband Robert F Kennedy Jr’s lack of credentials to lead the US Department of Health and Human Services, as she told Hines, ‘He’s not a doctor and he’s not a professional.’

The following month, the Sister Act star enraged conservatives when she claimed President Trump uses an autopen to sign official documents.

Goldberg was then passed a note from producers and forced to issue the clarification they ‘don’t know if Trump used an autopen’ on-air. She then angrily tore up the message in protest.

Last January, Goldberg appeared to make a jab about First Lady Melania Trump’s physical appearance after the First Lady had issued a rare public statement ‘against the violence’ being seen in Minnesota at the time.

And just this month, Goldberg dismissed Trump voters as ‘poorly educated’ as The View hosts discussed the president’s address to the nation about the Iran war.

The star’s steady attacks against Trump and fellow Republicans have even elicited a response from Trump himself, who previously called The View hosts ‘stupid.’

He told supporters at a rally in 2024 that he would ‘never hire’ Goldberg because her comedy act is ‘filthy, dirty’ and ‘disgusting.’

Goldberg then used The View’s platform to fire back at his comments towards her, calling him ‘dumb’ and saying that Trump had ‘hired [her] four times’ to perform a comedy event at one of his casinos.

Despite the show’s notoriously liberal views and Goldberg’s frequent flare-ups with Republican guests, The View has recently made an effort to welcome more conservative voices onto the live program, including Hines and former Georgia congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene in her first interview since leaving Congress.

Nevertheless, a 2025 study revealed that out of the 341 guests who appeared on The View that year, only two of them were conservative while 128 were liberal.

That all may change, as Trump’s Federal Communications Commission plans to investigate The View amid a new crackdown demanding equal time for candidates in elections.

In February, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) chair Brendan Carr told reporters the agency is ‘taking a look’ at whether The View violated ‘equal time’ rules when they hosted Representative James Talarico ahead of the Democratic primary for US Senate in Texas.

Talerico’s segment lasted nine minutes on-air while his opponent, Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, appeared on the show for 17 minutes.

Coincidentally, The View has since welcomed reality TV star and avid Trump supporter Savannah Chrisley as guest co-host this year, as well as the return of Hasselbeck.

However, The View’s efforts to appeal to more conservative viewers has still done nothing to quell rumors of a cast shake-up or reports of alleged behind-the-scenes drama, according to the source.

‘Even with Republican voices on the show, they still get a lot of hate and rumors of people leaving,’ the source said.

They also shared that the cast does not ‘want to address’ any of the scrutiny because ‘nobody wants to give the rumors more life,’ though they said it has become ‘a day by day ordeal’ to avoid all the noise.

Following similar speculation into Goldberg’s tenure on The View, a separate source at ABC previously told the Daily Mail in November that the actress ‘will stay on the show for as long as they will have her.

‘She gets paid very well, and typically always follows orders from producers,’ they shared at the time.

Even Goldberg herself has hinted that she has no plans to leave The View, after claiming during an interview that she can’t afford to retire just yet.

Goldberg, who reportedly makes an estimated $8million from the show each year, told Entertainment Tonight last year: ‘I’ve gotta keep paying those bills, baby!’

The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for ABC and Goldberg for comment.
