The Devil Wears Prada won a legion of fans when released in 2006 – and the sequel, launched today, has caused a frenzy for the film’s fashion all over again.

Featuring Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt, the movie firmly cemented itself in fashion history by offering a unique blend of high-end style and modern simplicity. Think Chanel tweed, trench coats and stylish corporate wear.

Now, fans of the film can recreate the effortlessly chic styles of the A-listers’ characters Andrea Sachs, Miranda Priestly and Emily Charlton at none other than M&S.

Boasting tailored suits and striking sunglasses, the opportunity to wear your own Devil Wears Prada inspired look is now possible at an incredibly modest price – with £40 wide leg trousers and a £46 cinched waistcoat.

Far from ‘florals for spring’, the retailer’s upmarket collection, titled ‘The Power Dressing Edit’, is described as the ‘very best pieces of the season’.

And while the ‘contemporary’ edit makes no explicit reference to the Devil Wears Prada movie, there is a clear vision of what may have inspired the clothes on offer.

Images from their new campaign shows one model stepping out in a powerful outfit and pair of sunglasses that appear to directly replicate shots of actress Mrs Hathaway walking through the streets of New York City while filming the sequel.

Even down to the short, polished power bob and bold pair of red stilettos, the uncanny resemblance between the model and Meryl is particularly striking, and certainly appears to pay tribute to the renowned actress’s statement fashion pieces.

Meanwhile, in another image from the campaign, similarities can be noted between the waistcoat style of aspiring journalist ‘Andy’, played by Anne Hathaway, as she works her way through the fashion industry.

For £40, shoppers can get their hands on a gorgeous lookalike with a pair of single pleat wide-leg trousers. Meanwhile, the coordinating tailored pinstripe waistcoat is marketed for £36 and has all of the remanence of the beloved character.

And for those who are more fond of Emily Blunt’s red-haired character Em, her white shirt and black corset, paired with pinstriped trousers, are also replicable in M&S’ latest range.

In a rather striking shot of the model walking through city streets while clutching a black purse and coffee cup, she is seen donning a black tie belted blazer, paired by the model with white trousers, which comes at a cost of £60.

Described as a ‘relaxed fit’ that offers a ‘lightweight feel’, the look once again features the accessories that have long become a staple in the film – including signature sunglasses – to round out the collection.

It is no secret that sunglasses remain a staple part of the Devil Wears Prada fashion, and M&S has certainly hit the mark with this collection.

Offering a pair of rectangle sunglasses for £10, ‘chunky preppy’ sunglasses for £18 and even ‘square buckle aviator sunglasses’, there is no shortage of eyewear to accessorise your high-end staple pieces.

Not only do sunglasses remain an integral part of Devil Wears Prada fashion, but necklaces are also a key piece in the repertoire of stylish looks that have continued to inspire looks for years to come.

Famously, the antique Egyptian Revival necklace worn by Meryl Streep, alongside the notorious Chanel Paris Souvenoir Charm necklace which has helped lead the surge of of T-Bar necklaces currently sweeping the fashion scene.

In the new sequel, Anne Hathaway is pictured showcasing a $9,000 Forme Diamond ‘Toggle’ T-bar necklace designed by Jemma Wynne and featuring an 18-karat.

And for those looking to add a similar statement jewellery choker to their look on a budget, M&S has the perfect options on hand.

At a much more friendly price of £80, you too can add a Devil Wears Prada pop of sophistication to your accessories with their gorgeous 18-karat gold-plated pearl knot necklace.

Premiered in New York City on April 20, the Devil Wears Prada sequel hits UK cinemas on May 1 and will see Meryl, Anne and Emily reunite – as the film dives back into the cutthroat world of high fashion – but this time with a modern twist.

Early plotlines suggest Miranda Priestly is grappling with the decline of traditional print media while facing off against Blunt’s Emily, now a powerful executive controlling crucial advertising dollars.

The sequel will also introduce a host of new faces, including Theroux, Kenneth Branagh and Lucy Liu.

The original Devil Wears Prada wasn’t just a box office smash – it cemented itself as a cultural touchstone, turning Streep’s Miranda Priestly into an instantly iconic character and inspiring a generation of fashion lovers to whisper, ‘That’s all.’

The Devil Wears Prada is based on the novel by Lauren Weisberger and was published in 2003.

It has since been made into a musical, starring Vanessa Williams as Miranda Priestly and with music by Elton John.

The original scored two Academy Award nominations, including Best Actress for Streep, who also took home the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.

It earned five Bafta nods, three Golden Globe nominations overall, and cemented itself as one of the defining comedies of the 2000s.
