Tana Ramsay, 51, ‘trains to become a midwife to help other mums’

Tana Ramsay has reportedly been studying to become a midwife since enrolling in a London university last year.

The 51-year-old, who shares six children with husband Gordon, 59, is said to have the full support of her family who ‘could not be more proud’ of her new career path.

Tana and the TV chef are parents to Megan, 27, twins Holly and Jack, 26, Tilly, 24, Oscar, six, and two-year-old Jesse. In 2016 Tana had a miscarriage at five months pregnant, delivering her stillborn son Rocky.

Despite writing her own cookbook and appearing on TV alongside her husband, Tana’s new role has been branded a ‘perfect match’ for her by family and friends.

A source said: ‘She used to be a nursery school teacher and is a fantastic, kind and empathetic mum and friend. Tana’s the person you’d want at your side if you were giving birth.

‘Midwifery feels like the perfect match for her. She is absolutely revelling in the challenge and wants to give back and support mums.

They told The Sun: ‘Gordon and their children couldn’t be more supportive or proud of her.’

Tana would need to study for three years to become a qualified midwife if studying full-time, and undertake placements at NHS hospitals.

Daily Mail have contacted Tana’s representatives for comment.

Tana has been a long time advocate for midwives and in 2024 joined Gordon to surprise a heroic midwife with a Pride Of Britain Award.

Agnes Nisbett, 87, was recognised for her incredible work with grieving mothers who lost their babies due to stillbirth, a subject close to Tana’s heart after the loss of Rocky.

In scenes that aired during the Pride Of Britain awards, Gordon emotionally told Agnes of their stillbirth: ‘Six years ago we experienced that, so we couldn’t be happier to be here.’

Tana said afterwards: ‘Who she is and what she has done for so, so many women is incredible, impactful, and exactly why she has been given this award.

‘Gordon and I were really honoured to be a part of her special surprise, and to talk about our own journey with a real understanding about the importance of the immediate support parents receive in those heartbreaking first moments.’

Tana has previously opened up about how she resented having to do the bulk of the childcare with her and Gordon’s older children whilst he established his career.

She explained how despite the couple agreeing that she would take on most duties while he worked, Tana had to juggle feelings of resentment.

‘When I say resent, it’s just sometimes I’d be like “Do you need to sit on the sofa and rest and watch the news and have 10 minutes to yourself? because I can’t do that.”‘

She continued: ‘I’d be lying if I said “No it’s fine I took this on” and there were times it felt really hard, but you get over it.’

Tana and Gordon met when she was a teenager, but famously she was not impressed by the trainee chef, describing him as ‘a complete arrogant arse’. They married in 1996 when Tana was 21.

After studying for her Montessori Early Childhood Qualification in London, Tana worked as a Montessori Teacher at a Chiswick nursery.

She has also carved out her own cookery career, publishing six cookbooks over the past 20 years as well as contributing to numerous newspapers and magazines.

Up until 2023 Tana owned a salon in Wandsworth, London called All About the Girl which offered various beauty treatments.
