Sesko urges United team-mates to learn from veteran midfielder

Benjamin Sesko believes Manchester United’s squad would be ‘stupid’ not to try and learn as much as possible from Casemiro before he leaves the club at the end of the season.

Casemiro reached an agreement with the club earlier this year not to trigger a further 12 months in his deal, meaning he will depart Old Trafford following the final game of the season away to Brighton.

The Brazilian, who opened the scoring against Brentford on Monday night and was awarded man of the match, is highly thought of behind the scenes for his work ethic and commitment to his craft, something that Sesko believes is rubbing off on United’s younger players.

‘He’s a working machine,’ said Sesko. ‘He’s experienced and what he’s putting on the pitch is unbelievable. You need someone like this [in your team]. Unfortunately, he’s leaving.

‘But yeah, we are pleased that we can use him until the last minute in the game and we’re going to use him.

‘I think you can be stupid if you don’t look at him and try to be like him when it comes to the work-rate and stuff. I think everyone is pleased that he is here.’

Bruno Fernandes is another player Sesko has spent a lot of time learning from since arriving last summer from RB Leipzig for £73.7million.

And it was Fernandes who teed up Sesko to score to make it 2-0, grabbing his 19th Premier League assist of the season in the process.

‘The way he’s playing, the way he’s understanding the game, it’s just outstanding and I’m really pleased that I can be part of the team being with him,’ added Sesko.

‘I’m listening to him on and off the pitch. I’ve been looking up to him a lot since I arrived here and he’s helping me a lot.’

As for personal targets for the remainder of the season, Sesko is not giving much away. His strike on Monday took him to 11 goals across all competitions in his debut season in England.

‘For me, it was just to get used to the league, to really feel the way it is, because I know I’m getting better from game to game,’ the Slovenian explained.

‘Having team-mates that I am understanding more and more. You can get just better.’

And the feeling of scoring at Old Trafford, surely that never gets any less special?

‘No,’ he said, quick as a flash. ‘It never will.’
