Scotch whisky bosses are hoping a deal to remove tariffs on sales to the US will be implemented ‘as soon as possible’ in a boost to the sector.
Tariffs of 10 per cent on sales to the US had been costing the industry in Scotland ‘about £4million a week in lost exports’, according to Graeme Littlejohn of the Scotch Whisky Association.
But Donald Trump has announced that tariffs will be removed after the King’s state visit.

Posting about the removal of tariffs on his Truth Social platform, the US President said the move was ‘in honour of the King and Queen’.
Littlejohn said: ‘This tariff has definitely cost jobs, it has definitely paused investment in the industry and it has definitely been a significant period of strain.’
