Ruth Langsford is said to be feeling ‘bereft and helpless’ after ex-husband Eamonn Holmes suffered a stroke last week.

The GB News presenter, 66, was hospitalised on Tuesday after becoming unwell, with a statement saying he’s ‘recovering well’ from the health scare.

Ruth, 66, who separated from Eamonn in May 2024 after 27 years together and 14 years of marriage, is said to be fighting her instincts to run to his bedside, where is being supported by girlfriend Katie Alexander, 44.

A source said: ‘Ruth is feeling pretty bereft and helpless ,  her instincts are to run to his bedside or call him on the phone but then she’s reminded she can’t do that. He has Katie now who has been stuck by his bedside and praying for his recovery.’

Before going on to claim the Loose Women star was being updated on Eamonn’s condition by their son Jack, 24, who is said to have a strained relationship with his father since the split.

‘It’s been very sad for her – almost like mourning the split all over again. She has been really angry and hurt by Eamonn but this week things changed and with him being so ill she parked those negative feelings and her instincts are to want to help him get better.

‘She’s having to forcibly stand back and do nothing which has been really against what she wants to do. Ruth is naturally a very caring and nurturing person so she’s very out of sorts with this news.

The Daily Mail have contacted Ruth’s representatives for comment.

It comes after Eamonn spoken out for the first time since revealing he suffered a stroke, as he shared a sweet message from his family on Sunday.

In a post on Instagram, Eamonn shared a sweet snap of his two granddaughters holding signs for him that said ‘get well soon.’

Updating his fans on his health, he captioned the post: ‘As my beautiful Granddaughters put it so well – I will do my best to get well SOON.

‘Thank you for all of your many many good wishes, they give me strength.’

Just hours earlier, Eamonn’s son Declan said the stroke had come as a ‘real shock’ to the family.

The GB News presenter, 66, was hospitalised where he is 'recovering well' from the health scare (pictured with girlfriend Katie Alexander, 44, days before being rushed to hospital)

He said: ‘I just wanted to share a quick message to say we hugely appreciate all the messages, it means a lot to us as a family.

‘What happened came as a real shock, but Dad is doing okay given the circumstances and we’re taking it one step at a time.

‘For now, we’re focused on him and keeping things steady around him.

‘We’d really value a bit of privacy as we navigate it, and what lies ahead, but thank you again for the support as it means so much to dad and the rest of the family.’

Last month Ruth  revealed how she turned to therapy and spent weeks ‘crying so much’ during sessions following her marriage split from.

The TV  persoanlity said seeking help was the ‘best thing’ she could have done and even helped her refrain from ruling out marriage in the future.

Speaking on Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place podcast she said: ‘It was the best thing I’ve ever done. The thing with therapy is that she doesn’t know us. Yes, she’s seen Eamonn and I on the TV but she doesn’t know us, at all. She doesn’t take sides at all, she just lets me talk and leads you in certain directions.

‘I was doing it once a week, sometimes twice a week and now it’s much less but still there. She says I can call her anytime and I always have her words, these little mantras in.’

Ruth said the therapist didn’t see her face for the first three sessions due to her ‘crying so much’ into her hands.

‘But one of the first things she said to me was: “Your marriage is over” it was quite blunt. I said “I know” and she said “Well, until you accept that, you’re not going to find it easy to move on.”

‘That stuck with me. Once you accept it, and go: “The fight’s over, isn’t it?”‘

Ruth went on to discuss the possibility of finding love again and while not ruling it out, dating was not currently at the forefront of her mind.
