Ruby Wax’s ‘feud’ with presenter revealed

As she takes part in this year’s I’m A Celebrity, Ruby Wax’s long-running feud with a major TV star has garnered public attention once again.

The TV star, 72, is one of the famous faces taking part in the ITV jungle show this year, with bosses hoping Ruby will speak her mind in camp – and divulge secrets of some of the stars she’s met.

While Ruby shot to fame when she appeared as Shelley DuPont on Girls On Top in 1985, she later turned her attention to documentaries.

She had a successful career, interviewing some of the most prominent names at the time, from OJ Simpson to Donald Trump.

However, she claimed Louis Theroux had stolen the idea of her investigations from her, following his worldwide success as her career started to slow down.

During a previous appearance on Adam Buxton’s podcast, she admitted she still had anger towards Louis, 55.

Ruby said: ‘I knew you were going to say that. Can we not discuss it? Everything we did, he took. I’ve moved on. I have a new career but if you say that word to me, I’ll vomit.’

She added: ‘I’ve evolved but there’s still a little bit of anger.’

Years later, in 2020, Ruby then appeared on Louis’ BBC Grounded With podcast where she clarified she was angry at the broadcaster and not him directly.

She admitted how she had not watched any of his documentaries until the morning of their interview, explaining: ‘It’s not you, it’s what you brought up.

‘Which is jealousy, envy, my failure, my dad’s disapproval… It’s my reality.

‘This morning I did look, I see what you’re doing. It’s great. You’re good, it’s what I should’ve been doing. Except I came out of Girls On Top, I was a persona – that’s how I made my money.’

Ruby continued by revealing she is still compared to Louis on a weekly basis.

‘The name kept coming up over and over again, that it wasn’t even your name anymore,’ she said.

‘If I get in a taxi, it happens maybe more than once a week. They will say to me, “Did you used to do what Louis Theroux did?” Or they say, “What happened to you?”‘

Meanwhile, on Thursday I’m A Celebrity fans watched as Ruby delivered a withering putdown to new arrival Tom Read Wilson – days after viewers called for her to be axed for rudeness.

Celebs Go Dating receptionist Tom, 39, debuted on Thursday alongside Vogue Williams – with the pair appointed as ‘Chief Explorers’.

It means the two are currently controlling the camp – including assigning chores to their new co-stars.

In tonight’s instalment, Tom decided to recite a sonnet to Ruby, 72, as he said to her: ‘Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?’

However, it appeared that comedian and presenter Ruby was not a fan of the full sonnet.

She told Tom: ‘I don’t like the bit about the lines…just compare me to a summer’s day and leave it at that.’

Tom also began singing scales in the creek, so loud that it was heard by his fellow celebrities back in camp.
