Ruben Amorim reveals talks with ‘really frustrated’ Leny Yoro

Ruben Amorim has spoken to Leny Yoro after the young Frenchman gave away a penalty at Crystal Palace on Sunday, and then looked distraught when he was substituted early in the second half.

Yoro cut a dejected figure on the bench after he was replaced in the 54th minute, having brought down Jean-Philippe Mateta for Palace’s opener, and had to be consoled by matchwinner Mason Mount at the final whistle.

Amorim confirmed that he has had a conversation with the 20-year-old Frenchman since the weekend to offer his support, but also reminded Yoro that he needed to react better to the situation.

‘Of course, I also spoke with him because he thinks too much,’ said the United boss. ‘He makes some mistakes in the game and then he struggles because he is so young and wants to do everything so well.

‘He is growing, with games and with setbacks. It is not easy for him as a young guy and of course he cannot give that to the people – the way he came to the bench. He understands that.

‘But he was really frustrated and on the good side he shows that he cares and he was knowing it was not his best game. But he did some things well and I showed him that as well. So he is fit and ready for the next challenge.’

The Manchester United defender was 'really frustrated' but is 'growing' with his 'setbacks'

Yoro 'struggles' because he 'thinks too much' after errors, according to Amorim

Amorim was critical of Patrick Dorgu and Diogo Dalot before the game, and Dalot responded by winning the two free kicks that led to goals for Joshua Zirkzee and Mount.

‘He can do a lot of things better, like other players,’ said Amorim. ‘When you see a very good game of Diogo, he can show he has the quality but sometimes he drops a little bit.

‘He’s really powerful, he’s good on set-pieces, he can play both sides. To have that ability of playing both sides that can help you to think about the squad. He’s a very important player for us, but he needs to improve like any other player.’
