Boxer, 25, killed by girlfriend’s jealous ex-husband

A rising boxing star was killed by his girlfriend’s jealous ex-husband who then turned the gun on himself, police said.

Adrian Valdovinos, 25, was gunned down inside his girlfriend’s Hanford, California, home on Sunday by love rival Vincent Diaz, 33, who forced his way inside.

The promising athlete was found dead inside the bathroom of the home, while his girlfriend was safely removed by officers who responded shortly after 4AM.

Diaz and his ex-wife split last August with court records seen by ABC7 indicating she requested a restraining order from him over their child.

Police told the outlet that neither Diaz, a convicted felon, or Valdovinos had any previous interactions with each other before the deadly events of Sunday night.

Hanford Police Lieutenant Justin Vallin told the outlet that officers on approach heard one gunshot ring out, which turned out to be Diaz taking his own life.

He added that Diaz had planned out the attack, having made arrangements for someone to watch his child. Police are continuing to investigate the shooting.

His father Robert told Your Central Valley: ‘He had such a big family, but the family went way beyond just the last names or the blood.

‘The family was tied into so many different areas of community, of boxing, family, peers, and just church.

‘Just a tremendous amount of hurt. And it definitely was a shock.

‘Never in a million years would we have thought Adrian, of all people, that this would happen to him.’

His older brother Robert added: ‘It’s something hard, you know, dealing with the loss just of my little brother that didn’t deserve this.’

A candle light vigil was held for the young man at the Civic Center Park in Hanford on Wednesday where over 500 family and friends gathered to remember him.

Boxing gloves were placed around pictures of him to symbolize his passion for the sport, in which he held a professional record of 10-2.
