Richard Osman revealed as host of new ITV quiz The Golden Elevators

Richard Osman has been unveiled as host of new quiz show The Golden Elevators, just weeks after announcing his departure from House of Games.

The presenter and author, 55, is making the move to ITV for his latest game show venture after nine years on the smash hit BBC series.

A synopsis for the new series reads: ‘Set in the lobby of a towering skyscraper, every question presents two possible answers, each represented by an elevator.

‘Before the doors close, players can confer, debate, persuade and mislead. Then they choose. Step into the correct lift and move closer to the top.

‘Step into the wrong one and everyone inside is plunged straight to the lobby and out of the game. The jackpot is shared between every player who makes it to the penthouse.

‘Will the group rise together through collective knowledge and trust – or will a lone wolf deceive their way to the top and take the whole cash prize for themselves?’

The programme will air on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player later this year.

Reacting to the news, Richard said: ‘I’m absolutely thrilled to be hosting The Golden Elevators. I signed up the moment they showed me the game.

‘It’s so simple, but it takes such skill to win – I’ve never seen a quiz show quite like it. I really can’t wait for ITV viewers to see The Golden Elevators. Or, as I call it, The Golden Lifts.’

Katie Rawcliffe, Director of Entertainment, Reality & Daytime Commissioning at ITV said: ‘We are excited to bring The Golden Elevators, hosted by the exceptional King of gameshows Richard Osman, to ITV.

‘It’s fast-paced, full of twists and turns, and with play-along perfect for primetime.’

Tim Harcourt, Chief Creative Officer, Studio Lambert said: ‘This simple game of questions and answers is fused with some of the most devilish game-play ever.

‘The combination of the team at ITV, Jasper and John DeMol’s Talpa Studios, as well as national treasure Richard Osman, makes this feel like an all-star galactico TV line up. We can’t wait to share it with audiences.’

In March, Richard announced his departure from long-running BBC quiz House of Games – having been with the show since it launched in 2017.

He said at the time: ‘It has been such a great pleasure, and honour, to present House of Games for the last nine years, with the absolute best team in television.

‘But it’s time to let someone else have a go, and I’m very excited to hand over the House keys to the lucky new host!’

Hollywood actor and Celebrity Traitors star Michael Sheen was subsequently revealed as Richard’s replacement.

Michael said: ‘Quite literally very large shoes to fill but as a huge fan of the show I’m incredibly excited to be able to move into the House and at long last see my silhouette on a fondue set.’

Richard is of course no stranger to the quiz world, having co-created Pointless and serving as co-host until 2022.

Despite his exit from the daily shows, he continues to co-host the celebrity editions alongside Alexander Armstrong.

Prior to House Of Games, he earlier presented the short-lived BBC Two quiz show Two Tribes.
