Richard E Grant offered a glimpse of his stunning London home as he showed off his lavish Christmas decor on Wednesday.

The actor, 68, showed off his eye-catching decor in a new post on Instagram, including huge baubles to decorate the trees in his garden.

Richard’s west London home is already a sight to behold, having filled the property with treasured items from throughout his career, and the addition of lavish decorations only adds to the festive wonder.

In a series of snaps and videos, Richard offered a glimpse at his Christmas tree, before showing the twinkling lights and decorations that have filled his garden.

The actor had previously shared that he was forced to sell his holiday home in the French Riviera as it became ‘too painful’ to return to the property after the death of his wife Joan Washington in 2021.

Richard offered a glimpse of his Christmas tree before showing the baubles that have decorated his garden, which he previously shared were taken from a Jo Malone festive display.

The star’s London home is filled with treasures from his marriage to wife Joan, including antiques, artefacts, paintings and souvenirs from his film career.

As well as adorning his home with twinkling lights, the back door features huge star decorations, while the interior is covered with festive ornaments.

Richard had shared back in 2022 that his London house was first built as a Georgian rectory back in 1840, telling House and Garden: ‘It looks from the outside like a Charles drawing, it feels like something I suppose I’d fantasise about living in when since I was a little boy.’

It seemed that Richard was keen to get into the Christmas spirit as he invited a gospel choir to perform at his home.

Last month, Richard shared that he decided to sell his French holiday home that he and his wife Joan shared, as it was ‘too painful’ to return to the property after her death.

Writing for The Times about his years of travel, Richard opened up about how he couldn’t return to the Provence farmhouse he and Jane renovated after she passed away.

The couple restored the farmhouse shortly after the birth of their daughter Olivia and returned as a family for 33 summers after.

But the holiday home did not feel the same without his late wife, and with a ‘heavy heart’ he decided to sell it.

Richard had shared in 2022 that his London house was first built as a Georgian rectory back in the 19th Century

He said: ‘I tried going back to Provence on my own after Joan died, but found it too painful. With a very heavy heart I sold the house.’

Richard recalled wholesome days at the home spent swimming, playing badminton and cooking – as well as grabbing black truffle baguettes from La Petite Maison, which he was introduced to for the first time by Elton John

Earlier this year while speaking to The Sunday Times Culture Magazine, Richard admitted that he ‘hasn’t really thought about’ finding a new partner since Joan’s death.

He said: ‘The idea of being 67 and three quarters and taking my kit off is so mortifying, I’d have to be in a Krakatoan cave without a crack of light.

‘That may change. I’m hopeful-minded and open-hearted but I’m not looking for it.’

Richard added that he doesn’t feel ‘lonely’ due to his close relationship with his daughter Olivia and her husband, who both live with him.

The veteran actor had also previously shared that his ‘hilarious’ wife ruled out eligible women for him before she died.

Dialect coach Joan tragically passed away in September 2021 aged 74, eight months after she was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer.

The Withnail And I star has been extremely candid about his grief in the years since Joan’s death.

Richard has also previously shared what made him realise his late wife really loved him.

Speaking on The Lulu Podcast: Turning Points, Richard said of Joan: ‘She was hilarious – a month before she died, she went through all the women, the women who were either single, divorced or available or widowed, that we knew, and she basically went through all of them like a lioness and gave me a reason why I shouldn’t pursue any of them.

‘And I knew how much she loved me by doing that…’ he added.

Richard went on to share Joan’s reaction to him finally meeting his idol, the iconic Barbra Streisand.

They say you should never meet your idols… and after I had this conversation with her and came back to London, and Joan said – even though she was then 79 years old – “If she wasn’t married to James Brolin, would you still jump her bones?”‘ Richard said.

Last month, Richard shared that he decided to sell his French holiday home that he and his wife Joan shared, as it was 'too painful' to return to the property after her death (pictured in 2019)

‘And I said, “Darling, you know the answer to that.” And she said – “Well, I’ve got you, you’re never getting away.”‘

Of finding love again, Richard said: ‘I have no expectation that I will fall in love again, which is not to say that it couldn’t or wouldn’t happen, I’m not there on a dating app trying to find it.

‘I feel fulfilled and sustained without feeling like I’ve lost my better half, which I have.’

The actor also revealed he is still so in love with his late wife that he emails her each night.

Richard said: ‘I have no woolly spiritual delusion that she’s hearing this, or that I’m going to get a response, but it somehow keeps the connection going.

‘So I write to her – “Dear J, today would really have amused you…” It makes it feel like that person is still there – it’s an ongoing conversation.’
