Rebekah Vardy admits she struggled with family’s move to Italy

Rebekah Vardy has opened up about her family’s ‘tough’ move to Italy following  husband Jamie transferring to US Cremonese.

But the WAG, 46, has said amid the ‘chaos’ and ‘vulnerability’ she came to realise ‘what matters most’ following her bitter Wagatha Christie feud with Coleen Rooney.

It began when Coleen, 40, put a widely shared post on Instagram which accused Rebekah’s Instagram account, 44, of leaking ‘false stories’ about her private life to the press.

Rebekah denied the allegations and sued for libel, but the case fell in her rival’s favour, leaving her liable to pay £1.5 million towards Coleen’s legal fees.

Rebekah, who is appearing with her family in new three-part ITV series The Vardys, vowed to show her ‘authentic’ self onscreen.

‘I think when you completely step out of your comfort zone and rebuild your life somewhere new, it forces you to slow down and really assess what matters most’.

She went on: ‘More importantly, life is for living and living is exactly what we intend to do. Italy gave us that perspective. Nothing else matters’.

Vowing to show her authentic self in the new documentary, Rebekah said: ‘My family and I are always authentic, so for us, we wouldn’t have it any other way. What you see is what you get’.

‘It didn’t need to be “vital”, it was just us, and this is us. But we didn’t want it polished or staged. The point was to be open and authentic about what this period of change looks like for our family. Moving on from such a big chapter in our lives affects everyone emotionally and documenting that honestly felt important’.

She added: ‘For years people have formed opinions about us from online or stories in the press, so this felt like an opportunity to let people see the reality themselves. The highs, the difficult moments, the humour, the madness of family life and the challenge of navigating such a huge transition after so many years of being in one place.

Rebekah also went on to discuss the ‘intense emotional toll’ the move had her, describing uprooting their lives as ‘chaotic’.

‘But I think what helped was us approaching it as a family challenge rather than just Jamie’s career move. We knew there would be difficult days, culture shocks and moments of stress but we also saw it as an opportunity to grow together, experience something new and create memories we’d never have otherwise.’

Rebekah shares Olivia, six, Finley, nine, Sofia 12, with her husband, as well as Megan, 23, and Taylor, 16, from previous relationships.

She is also a step-mum to Ella, 11 – Jamie’s daughter from a previous relationship with Emma Daggett.

It comes after Rebekah insisted ‘hell will freeze over’ before she apologised to Coleen following their bitter Wagatha Christie feud.

Continuing to profess her innocence last week, she has said she has nothing to apologise for and insisted that it was her rival  who is in the wrong.

She said: ‘I’m never going to apologise for something I didn’t do. Hell will freeze over before I do that. I’m living with the judgment the judge made but, still to this day, I believe she was wrong’.

Husband Jamie, 39, also rushed to her defence, saying: ‘People thinking that Bex was a villain, it’s just a load of s*** but everyone close to her knows, that’s all she needs. It was really tough seeing Bex in pain’.

Rebekah explained she was ‘f***ing bored’ of the long-running feud and while she may never apologies to Coleen, insisted she was not interested in living in the past or continuing to fight with her former pal.

She told The Sun she ‘did not have any negative feelings’ towards Coleen, despite admitting many people would find that hard to believe.

Before adding: ‘I’ve got no idea what [Coleen] thinks of me, but I’m not bothered.’

Coleen said in a statement after the ruling she was ‘pleased’ the decision went in her favour but she ‘never believed’ the case should have gone to court ‘at such expense in times of hardship for so many people when the money could have been far better spent helping others’.

Rebekah was also ordered to pay a significant portion of Coleen’s legal costs – a staggering £1.6million fine.

Elsewhere Rebekah opened up about the family’s stressful move to Lake Garda as she packed everything up from their Leicester home, including the grand piano, to move to Italy.

However, things didn’t go as smoothly as they had hoped as within months of uplifting their lives in the UK their lavish Italian apartment was raided by burglars, leaving Rebekah ‘on edge 24/7’.

‘When something like this happens it makes you question everything,’ she said during their new ITV series, revealed The Mirror.

She later moaned: ‘They’ve taken my f***ing watch.’

The family did manage to stick with Italy until the end of the season, but Rebekah said it was a struggle to find her kids British home comfort foods like baked beans, gravy and squash.

‘I have been tasked by my little monsters to go and find some English home comforts. I think the Italian teacher thought I was mad. The kids have asked me to find, they want baked beans. It’s really hard to find.’
