Rapper and frequent Travis Barker collaborator POORSTACY dead at 26

Rising emo-rap artist POORSTACY has tragically died at the age of 26 in Florida.

The Palm Beach County Medical Examiner confirmed the heartbreaking news to TMZ, which reported that the musician died early Saturday after being rushed from a hotel ‘to a local hospital for a medical emergency.’

A hotel employee in Boca Raton told the outlet the performer (born Carlito Milfort) had been staying at the property for 10 days and had ‘checked in with a woman and a toddler.’ No one else was transported to the hospital, and no additional injuries were reported.

Authorities have not yet released his cause of death.

The young rapper-singer had built a devoted following and worked closely with Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker on several tracks, solidifying his place as one of the most exciting new voices to emerge from the emo-rap scene.

Of their three songs together, their 2020 track, Choose Life, off his album, The Breakfast Club, had the biggest success.

Over his career, POORSTACY released two studio albums, two EPs, and was featured on the Grammy Award nominated Bill & Ted Face the Music soundtrack.

The Daily Mail has reached out to POORSTACY’s representatives, but have not heard back, at this time.

Milfort was born in Palm Beach, Florida, where his father taught him multiple instruments from a young age.

He reportedly became obsessed with guitar after playing Guitar Hero, which pushed him toward rock music.

Early in life, he immersed himself in the local metalcore scene while also absorbing the influence of Miami’s underground hip-hop movement.

Before he became POORSTACY, he uploaded music online under several aliases, including Lito Xantana, Vizion and Scarybrats.

Milfort later adopted the stage name POORSTACY, inspired by legendary skater Stacy Peralta.

‘Stacy Peralta himself was not shown a lot of attention at the start, but he ended up being one of the biggest legends in skateboarding in the end,’ he once explained. ‘I always loved the idea of that, of doing your own thing and having it pay off.’

A deluxe version of his album, The Breakfast Club, arrived in July 2020, followed by a steady stream of singles and collaborations with Barker, Whethan and others.

In 2021, he released Public Enemy, then the post-hardcore track Children of the Dark and announced his second album, Party at the Cemetery, accompanied by its title single.

Milfort’s influences spanned goth rock, punk, emo, rap, and even classic rock icons.

He cited Sisters of Mercy, Billy Idol, XXXTentacion, The Kooks, The Strokes, My Chemical Romance, AFI, Slipknot, Earl Sweatshirt, and Flatbush Zombies among many others.

His lyrical world drew inspiration from V for Vendetta, Trainspotting, and Halloween, giving his music its signature darkness.

He was influential enough that even Yungblud cited POORSTACY as an inspiration for his 2020 album Weird!.
