Non-league mascot THROWN OUT of FA Cup clash

A non-league mascot was thrown out of his own side’s match on Saturday after tumbling over an advertising board.

Sammy the Saint, the mascot of seventh-tier side St Albans City, appeared uneasy on his feet pre-match while geeing up the crowd for an FA Cup clash at Burton Albion.

A video posted to X of Sammy’s bizarre antics shows him hitting the deck after falling over a hoarding before getting up and punching the air in front of the away fans.

He then stumbles along the front of the stand, appearing to sway side-to-side, only narrowly avoiding another embarrassing fall.

Sammy was later escorted away from the Pirelli Stadium before the game had even started. With security guards either side of him, the mascot continued waving his hands in the air for the travelling supporters on his way off.

St Albans’ fortunes in the first-round FA Cup clash were ultimately no better than their mascot’s as the Saints slumped to a humiliating 6-0 loss at League One Burton.

Sammy was however later spotted being thrown out by security guards ahead of kick-off

The underdogs started the fixture rather promisingly, heading into the break just 1-0 down to a side some three leagues above them.

However things went pear-shaped after the interval as Burton fired another five past the Albans goalkeeper to seal a convincing victory.

Daily Mail Sport has contacted St Albans City for comment about Sammy the Saint.

Elsewhere in the FA Cup yesterday, non-league sides Boreham Wood, Brackley, Carlisle and Gateshead all beat EFL opposition to secure their spots in the second round.

Brackley overcame League Two side Notts County 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw at home, Carlisle sent League One Reading out and Gateshead upset Wimbledon in south-west London. Boreham Wood meanwhile thrashed League Two Crawley Town 3-0.
