The fallout from Conor Benn’s win over Chris Eubank Jr has continued with their fathers’ feud still very much present after Nigel Benn labelled Chris Eubank Sr a ‘prat’ after the fight.
Conor Benn got revenge by beating Eubank Jr by unanimous decision on Saturday night at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, seven months after losing their initial bout.
The obvious bad blood between the sons is shared by the fathers, 35 years on from the first of their two fights.
During their heyday, Benn Sr, now 61, would often declare his ‘hate’ for Eubank Sr, now 59, and those old fires were stoked again in in the build-up to Saturday’s clash.
The pair had an unexpected face-off on Thursday and failed to shake hands pre-fight. Speaking about those incidents, Benn Sr expressed his displeasure of his long-time foe.
‘At the press conference … I’ll say it now, we had a face-off,’ said Benn Sr.
‘He is dancing because he loves the limelight. He doesn’t care about his son, he just loves the limelight.
‘And he is dancing, he came right next to me and I thought, ‘Let me just shake your hand’, so I pulled him in for a hug and he put his hand up to me.
‘And I actually felt like I wanted to… so when he tried to shake my hand tonight, I thought, “I ain’t playing your games, mate”. I don’t think I’ll even speak to him again, because I find him a right prat.
‘He is an idiot. He tries to quote scripture and all that, he don’t even know what he is talking about. I just can’t get him. When you have them two around you, everything is just so negative. Always bloody moaning. Always.
‘I tell you what, I’m sick to death of them to tell the truth and I am glad it’s over now. I am glad it’s over now and we won’t hear about them any more.’
