For many, the prospect of settling into a movie entirely undisturbed on a long flight is a greatly inviting one.
But with the launch of new business class seats with wrap-around TV screens, that’s set to be taken to a whole new level.
Entertainment system company RAVE Aerospace and plane seating expert Safran Seats have combined their expertise to create a vision for the future of premium travel.
The new seat features an ‘Immersive Display Concept’, a U-shaped micro-LED screen that functions as a wrap-around cinema screen.
It can even just display a background that captures the mood you’re trying to achieve on board.
The suite is called ‘Origin’, and has more to write home about, too.
It has dynamic comfort and temperature management systems that optimise cushion pressure and regulate the suite’s climate, so you can maintain the temperature you desire while travelling.
Plus, smart stowage solutions and adaptive lighting provide an enhanced passenger experience.
Additionally, Origin boasts an updated version of Euphony, a headset‑free audio technology that adds to the ‘sense of immersion’.
The new seat was revealed at the annual Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg.
Ben Asmar, vice president of products and strategy at RAVE Aerospace, said: ‘Future display technologies are about more than just consuming content.
‘They enable curated experiences, whether that’s deep immersion or the ability to escape into environments beyond the physical.’
Jean-Christophe Gaudeau, VP of marketing at Safran Seats, said: ‘Our ambition is to redefine the future of premium travel.
‘With Origin, we bring together seating innovation and future display technologies to create an immersive, adaptive environment that puts comfort, well‑being and passenger control at the forefront.’
It’s not the only plane seat development to hit the headlines in recent times.
British Airways is set to begin the refurbishment of the Airbus A380 aircraft this year to launch the largest business class cabin in the world.
Club Suites, which can already be enjoyed on Boeing 777s and the Airbus A350s, are coming to the aircraft.
Plans reported by Aerospace Global News revealed how the Airbus A380 would be fitted out with 110 of the lie-flat seats.
They feature a screen door for privacy and seats located in the centre even have a divider screen too.
The lining of the suites is acoustic and designed to dampen any pesky cabin noise to provide a peaceful journey, and there will be cabinets dedicated to each seat for storage.
Plus, last week it was announced the ‘world’s first sleep pods in the sky’ will soon be launched by Air New Zealand – complete with pillows, privacy curtains, ambient lighting, amenity kits, and more.
From November, passengers travelling in economy between New York and Auckland will have the opportunity to enjoy a quiet, private space to rest in six individual lie-flat nests, named ‘Skynests’, on select flights.
A Skynest session lasts four hours and can be booked in addition to Economy or Premium Economy seats for the price of NZ$495 (£215).
