Three-man knife fight erupts on Tube platform in front of passengers

The terrifying moment a three-man knife fight broke out on a Tube platform has been caught on camera by a horrified passenger.

The horrific attack happened at Colliers Wood Underground station in south London last week at around 10.30am on Wednesday morning, December 17.

One of the men is seen lying on the platform while two others lay into him – violently stamping his body into the ground and kicking his victim in the head four times.

Police confirmed that the shocking brawl involved knives and said they are investigating the fight, and have arrested a man in his 20s on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon.

This violence follows videos of crack pipes being lit inside Tube carriages and brawls next to babies in underground stations emerged this year in an epidemic of disorder across London’s transport system.

In April, photos emerged online of a scruffy-looking man lighting a metal pipe inside a Tube carriage.

Phlegming at the mouth and spitting on the floor, he had a ‘gormless grin’ on his face as unnerved passengers stood up and moved away.

Back in July, video emerged of a brawl breaking out on the steps of a packed London Tube station – with a screaming toddler ending up on the floor in the melee.

The fight broke out between a group of men at the entrance to Highbury and Islington Station at rush hour, as screaming members of the public attempted to intervene when the group appeared to hurl a man down the stairs.

The incidents have left many fearful of using public transport in the capital, where violent crime rates have steadily increased over the last nine years.

In the footage of this most recent spat, a youth dressed in a black hoodie is seen kicking his victim four times in the head, as a third in a grey tracksuit stands over his limp body.

One horrified passenger on a Tube filmed the brutal scenes on their mobile phone.

A man can be heard saying: ‘Oi oi’, while another woman called out: ‘That is unacceptable.’

Londoners reacted to the violence online after it was reported on Need to Know, with one person commenting: ‘This actually made me sad.’

Donna Trainor said: ‘Someone’s son lying there and no one helped,’ while another posted: ‘I lived in Colliers Wood in 2004. It was such a nice area.’

One simply fumed: ‘Animals.’

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: ‘Officers attended Colliers Wood Underground station following reports at 10.30am on 17 December of a fight between three young men involving knives.

‘A man in his 20s was arrested at the station on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon.

‘He has been taken to hospital with injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.

‘Enquiries are ongoing, and anyone who has information or witnessed the incident is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 211 of 17 December.’

The chaos caught on camera on Tubes and underground stations this year have left many angry and feeling let down by authorities at the increasing rates of crime.

In April, the Tube’s crime epidemic was laid bare when commuters had to watch on while passengers brazenly smoked crack cocaine and cannabis for their daily high.

After photos emerged of a man lighting what appeared to be a crack (cocaine) pipe inside a Tube carriage, the Shadow Transport Secretary said that the shocking images would ‘concern’ Sir Sadiq Khan, who has seen violent crime rates steadily increase under his nine-year tenure as London Mayor.

Passengers have been unashamedly using the Tube as their makeshift drugs lair across the network, with Transport for London staff seemingly powerless to act.

Commuters told the Daily Mail they have to contend with smelling cannabis at least twice a week on their packed daily 50-minute commute on the Elizabeth, Circle and District Lines.

One female told us of feeling petrified as she sat on the Tube next to one male as they smoked the Class A drug crack cocaine in front of pregnant women.

They reported the drug use on the District Line through British Transport Police’s text service but said they never received a response with the man happily getting off the carriage at Victoria.

Sir Sadiq insisted on LBC at the time that TfL staff can intervene, adding there were 500 enforcement officers working across the network.

‘This shouldn’t have happened if it was reported, we will make sure that when good citizens, good Samaritans report things action is taken,’ he said.

Other Tube users have taken to social media platforms to post videos and pictures of people using drugs.

Footage posted on Reddit from September last year titled ‘London’s finest on the Tube’ showed a man with matted hair smoking crack.

It led to people sharing their own experiences of witnessing drug use on the Tube, with one person saying it was like being in New York City.

Footage this summer of a similar brawl that broke out on the steps of an Underground station also left many in danger.

The scrap between a group of men at Highbury and Islington Station at rush hour in July forced screaming members of the public to intervene.

Footage captured the chaos as a smartly-dressed man kicked the head of another in a grey tracksuit – as someone else threw a rucksack into the packed crowd.

Commuters attempt to break up the fight and help a mother and her baby in a buggy get out of the way, as a toddler was left crying on the floor as the chaos unfolded.

Then another one of the men swung his legs upwards to kick two others, before he was pulled down by three men and put on the ground again.

The suited man then continued to kick him repeatedly before the man being attacked was dropped onto his back on the stairs.

He was then seen attempting to crawl up the stairs while the others continued to punch him.

A woman tried to calm the situation down but quickly walks away after nearly being hit by a punch, while another woman in a yellow dress is then seen holding the arm of one of the reported attackers.
