This is the moment a brawl broke out on the steps of a packed London Tube station – with a screaming baby ending up on the floor in the melee.

The fight broke out between a group of men at the entrance to Highbury and Islington Station at rush hour last night.

Screaming members of the public attempted to intervene as the group appeared to hurl a man down the stairs and threw punches and kicks at him.

British Transport Police are now probing mobile phone footage of the incident being shared online.

Footage captured the chaos as a smartly-dressed man kicks the head of another in a grey tracksuit – as someone else throws a rucksack into the packed crowd.

Commuters attempt to break up the fight and help a mother and her baby in a buggy get out of the way.

A group of men were seen fighting each other on the steps of Highbury and Islington Tube station

A toddler was seen sitting on the floor on their own while the men threw punches just feet away

On the other side of the staircase a baby in a buggy was crying as their terrified mother screamed

They man in the grey tracksuit at one point swung his legs in the air to try and kick his attackers

Then another one of the men swings his legs upwards to kick two others, before he is pulled down by three men and put on the ground again.

The suited man then continues to kick him repeatedly before the man being attacked is dropped onto his back on the stairs.

He was then seen attempting to crawl up the stairs while the others continued to punch him.

A woman tries to calm the situation down but quickly walks away after nearly being hit by a punch.

Another woman in a yellow dress is then seen holding the arm of one of the reported attackers.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: ‘Officers received a report of a fight at Highbury and Islington Underground station at around 5.30pm yesterday.

‘Officers are aware of footage circulating on social media, and the incident is currently being investigated.

‘Anyone with information is asked to text 61016 with reference 558 of 17 July.’
