Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool career is OVER: Egypt chief reveals details

Mohamed Salah has played his last game for Liverpool – but will be fit for the World Cup, according to Egypt’s national team director.

Salah went off injured in Liverpool’s win over Crystal Palace on Saturday, with fears the issue would be season-ending. The Reds are yet to update their supporters on the state of their Egyptian star, who is leaving this summer after nine years at Anfield.

And it now appears Salah will be denied a proper on-the-field farewell with his hamstring injury apparently diagnosed as a tear that will see him miss all of Liverpool’s matches in May.

Egypt national team director Ibrahim Hassan told Reuters: ‘He ‌‌has suffered a hamstring tear and will require four weeks of treatment.’

Manager Arne Slot had suggested Salah’s remarkable career at Liverpool could be over after seeing him limp off at Anfield.

‘We don’t know. That is the best answer I can give,’ he said.

‘There might be a chance but we simply don’t know. What we do know is that the season is over in four or five weeks so there are not a lot of games and we have to wait and see how.

‘But Mo has taken such good care of his body all these years that he will have the minimum time required to recover. Let’s hope for the best.’

Slot added: ‘Another win and another injury. It’s the story of our season.

‘It’s too early to say but we all know Mo and how hard it is for him to leave the pitch. For Mo to leave the pitch, it shows you something but we have to wait and see how bad it is.’

Liverpool sit fourth in the Premier League on 58 points and look set for Champions League qualification, with the Reds eight points clear of sixth-place Brighton.

They face Manchester United and Aston Villa away from home and host Chelsea and Brentford at Anfield – in what would have been Salah’s last game.
