Miranda Hart teases her Traitors plans as she travels to the castle

Miranda Hart is making her return to TV after being announced among the Celebrity Traitors series two cast on Saturday.

In her 2024 autobiography, the comedian, 53, best known for her BBC sitcom Miranda, recounted her three-decade health battle that ‘left her bedbound and without joy’.

It took medics 33 years to discover Miranda had been battling with the bacterial infection Lyme Disease, after initially mislabelling her as being agoraphobic – an anxiety disorder characterised by symptoms of anxiety in situations.

The star then shared that she was also diagnosed with ME, also known as chronic fatigue syndrome.

As a result she has remained mostly out of the spotlight over the past five years, with TV appearances limited to guest spots on chat shows and Comic Relief.

But fans were delighted to see Miranda’s name among the cast list for The Traitors on Saturday.

The comedian later shared a snap of herself poking fun at her misspelled name in the BBC show’s trailer as she sat in the back of a car en route to Scotland.

In a sign that she will do her best to entertain the Traitors and Faithfuls during her castle stay, Miranda reposted a fan’s request for her to return to her signature comedic move and ‘please gallop around the castle.’

The star replied: ‘I now see that as a dare.’

In an extract from her book I Haven’t Been Entirely Honest with You Miranda offered an insight into the height of her health struggles while doctors failed to find the cause of her symptoms.

The comedian, who also shared in her book she had married surveyor Richard Fairs, admitted that she felt increasingly ‘alone’ as if no one seemed to understand the height of her struggles.

‘As I continued to study the scientists on this matter, another phrase stood out. They would say, “There’s nothing wrong here right now.” What?!

‘Oh, it seemed not only implausible, but downright mean. Frankly, I would have punched someone in the face had they coolly said this to me when I was collapsed with exhaustion. I would have shouted, um, excuse me, but EVERYTHING is wrong.

‘I can’t get out of bed. I’m alone. No one understands. My dreams and hopes for my life are fading away. Nothing is right, right now. It’s wrong. And that’s why it’s also blooming awful. I’m all full of wrong, so, and I mean this with no disrespect at all, go away, thank you to you!’

The Celebrity Traitors series two cast was officially announced when the BBC dropped the first teaser trailer on Saturday, with Maya Jama, Jerry Hall and Romesh Ranganatha also heading to the castle.

Shortly after the announcement, Jerry was spotted touching down in Inverness alongside Richard E Grant, Bella Ramsey and Amol Rajan, before jumping in cars to head to the iconic Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands.

After months of speculation over who could be following in the iconic footsteps of last year’s winner Alan Carr, in a quirky new trailer the 21 names were finally revealed.

Also heading to Ardross Castle are Michael Sheen, Ross Kemp and James Blunt.

Comedians Rob Beckett, Joe Lycett, Joanna McNally and James Acaster will also be joined by Little Mix star Leigh-Anne Pinnock.

The line up will be completed by mathematician Hannah Fry, broadcaster Amol Rajan, Coronation Street actress Julie Hesmondhalgh, prankster King Kenny, Industry star Myha’la, Heartstopper’s Sebastian Croft and My Mad Fat Diary’s Sharon Rooney.

Set in airport arrivals, the trailer shows a line of actors standing with the iconic roundtable chalk boards revealing the names.

In the BBC’s announcement clip, people were seen holding signs at an airport with each of the celebrities’ names on them.

But in a hilarious nod to the show, many of the stars’ names were spelt wrong, such as ‘Rob Bucket’, ‘Miranda Heart’ and ‘Richardy Grant’.
