Millie Bobby Brown ‘exits upcoming Netflix Olympic drama’

Netflix is said to have scrapped a new Millie Bobby Brown drama after the actress quit over ‘creative differences,’ it was reported on Friday.

The actress, 22, was set to star as US Olympic gymnast Kerri Strug, in the biopic, who rose to fame as a member of the Magnificent Seven.

The women’s gymnastics team won the country’s first-ever gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics, despite Kerri’s injury.

The drama, which follows her story, was set to start filming this summer,  but has now been shelved, according to sources.

Gia Coppola was said to be directing the project but was later replaced by Cate Shortland after stepping down.

The script was being written by Ronnie Sandahl, but no further details had been released.

Deadline, who first confirmed the project in September last year, reported that Millie left this week amid ‘creative differences.’

Daily Mail has contacted Millie Bobby Brown’s representative for comment.

In 1996, the US Olympic women’s gymnastics team was branded as the ‘Magnificent Seven’ thanks to their impressive win at the coveted event.

The young women brought home the country’s first-ever gold medal in women’s gymnastics after a nail-biting ending that saw the team pull ahead in the final moments thanks to Kerri’s vault – which she landed with a hurt ankle.

The events completely captured the nation and propelled all seven of the athletes into the spotlight, turning them into American heroes and massive celebrities practically overnight.

In the final event of the competition – the vault – Dominique Moceanu failed to stick her landing and ruined her chances of scoring of 9.4 to secure Olympic Gold for the American side.

Therefore, the pressure rested on the shoulders of Strug – who was just 18 years old at the time.

Unfortunately, she fell on her first attempt and heard her ankle snap during the awkward landing. She limped back to the start line – visibly injured.

It was later discovered that the youngster had actually torn two ligaments in her ankle.

However, the four-foot, nine-inch gymnast was encouraged to go again in order to secure Olympic gold for her team.

She prepared herself for her final vault, sprinted down the runway and sprung off the board while using her injured ankle.

Strug also stuck her landing, winning gold, before hopping one leg to ease the pressure on her injury.

Strug was historically carried off the floor and awarded her medal while wrapped up in a cast.

As a result of Strug’s ankle injury, she had to withdraw from the all-around singles event.
