Mikel Arteta set for bumper new contract

Premier League-winning manager Mikel Arteta is set to become one of the highest-paid managers in world football with a new contract.

The Spaniard led the Gunners to their first league title in 22 years this season, with victory confirmed on Tuesday night when Manchester City failed to beat Bournemouth.

Arteta’s current deal was set to expire next summer, but talks over extending that deal are advanced and an agreement would see him earn a huge pay hike.

Diego Simeone is thought to be the highest-paid manager in world football, picking up £26million a year with Atletico Madrid. Arteta has been tipped to get close to that.

He is currently on around £10m a year, plus £5m for qualifying for the Champions League.

Pep Guardiola is on around £20m a year at Manchester City, and Arteta will take over his former mentor as the longest-serving Premier League manager when he departs City this summer.

Talks are expected to resume after the Champions League final next weekend.

The Arsenal boss is also targeting a move for Bournemouth’s forward sensation Eli Junior Kroupi this summer, as he looks to strengthen his side further.

Kroupi scored the goal that sealed the deal for Arsenal as Bournemouth held City to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday, and it’s thought that the Cherries will ask for £80m if he is to move.

The 19-year-old has scored the most goals for a teenager in his debut season in the Premier League, scoring his 13th against City, and has changed agent ahead of the summer.

It is believed that the funds will be available for Arsenal to sign a marquee name in the transfer window.
