The eye-watering cost of Meghan’s festive wardrobe in Netflix special

The eye-watering cost of Meghan’s festive wardrobe in Netflix special,

Meghan Markle has ushered in the festive season with a flourish of Hollywood sparkle and a wardrobe that costs more than a family’s entire Christmas budget.

Unveiling the trailer for her upcoming Netflix holiday special, the Duchess of Sussex, 44, invited viewers to ‘unwrap the magic and let the festivities begin’ – but it was the glossy imagery and eye-watering outfits that actually took centre stage.

The carefully curated teaser, which blends cosy domesticity with luxury lifestyle aesthetics, seems designed to cement Meghan’s evolving on-screen persona: part hostess, part lifestyle guru, part global celebrity.

Skipping through Christmas trees, Meghan declares, ‘I love the holiday season,’ as she goes on to show her craft creations and hang decorations on the tree. The message is unmistakable: Meghan wants the world to know that she is queen of the Christmas season.

What truly steals the spotlight, however, is her wardrobe. Throughout the trailer, Meghan cycles through an array of outfits that total £62,279.

The duchess makes her first appearance in a £4,105 Max Mara coat, then there is her £650 designer Gabriela Hearst version of the humble sweater vest and £890 crisp oversized Givenchy white shirt.

Her chosen outfits are equal parts festive and high-end, deliberately simple but unmistakably expensive.

The pièce de résistance comes towards the end of the trailer, Meghan lights candles wearing a Galvan silk emerald green gown paired with what has become her signature jewellery styling, minimalist but undeniably lavish.

While hanging baubles on her Christmas tree, Meghan dressed up in her favourite £890 Givenchy oversized skirt tucked into a festive red £223 Simkhai pencil skirt, adding a pair of glittering £105 Birks earrings

Meghan's Ushuaia emerald gown from Galvan cost £38,835 and the poster also features Princess Diana’s £22,000 Cartier watch, £7050 Cartier Love bracelet, £3795 Jennifer Meyer bracelet and £4595 Ariel Gordon diamond bracelet

On her wrist sits an astonishing jewellery stack worth £37,440, a festive fantasy far removed from the December routine of tangled tinsel and budget-challenging shopping lists.

Between the wardrobe changes and immaculate interiors, the trailer does make space for wholesome family moments.

‘It’s about finding time to connect with the people we love,’ Meghan announces as she pops champagne, pausing to give Prince Harry a kiss, a scene crafted to look candid but is unmistakably choreographed.

But even the soft, supposedly spontaneous moments can’t distract from the sheer scale of glamour on display.

As Meghan moves from kitchen counter to craft table to twinkling tree, every scene seems designed to showcase another luxe ensemble, each one a reminder that this is no ordinary holiday special, but a curated window into a lifestyle few could dream of replicating.

The overall impression is one of abundance, of time, of resources, of money poured into crafting a Christmas experience that looks almost too pristine to touch.

And while Meghan has always embraced the blend of glamour and domestic warmth, this trailer raises the stakes to new heights.

It is glossy, it is grand, and it is unapologetically indulgent, where every detail sparkles just a little brighter than reality.

While creating a wreath, Meghan paired a £250 Dôen spotty midi skirt with a £530 Co cashmere sweater for a cosy chic ensemble

It was forest green cashmere to paint pottery as Meghan dressed in an Altuzarra tie-waist £317 cashmere sweater.

Hanging stockings on the fireplace, Meghan is stylishly dressed in a matching olive green £200 silk top and £190 skirt from New York based brand Argent

It comes after the emerald Galvan dress featured in the trailer caused a stir online when eagle-eyed fans noticed Meghan had previously worn the dress for a Variety shoot.

In a separate recent incident, Meghan was spotted last month in a black-and-white midi dress designed by Chanel while out with Prince Harry at a club in New York City – having previously worn the outfit for a photoshoot in 2022 for The Cut magazine.

This led to unsubstantiated accusations that the Duchess had been taking dresses from cover shoots without permission – but her team have now denied wrongdoing.

A spokesman for Meghan told the Daily Mail: ‘The insinuation that any items were taken without the full knowledge and agreement of the on-set stylists or their respective teams is not only categorically false, but also highly defamatory.

‘Any items kept, were done so in total transparency and in accordance with contractual arrangements.’

Another source claimed it was normal for celebrities to retain certain items from photoshoots, including to prevent potential resale or unauthorised auction.

They also pointed out that clothing worn by Royal Family members and other public figures has been targeted for resale in the past.

One fashion source told Page Six: ‘It’s not uncommon if talent loves something from a shoot that they ask to keep it or purchase it.

‘They would normally be offered a discount if it’s something the designer can’t part with or a sample that needs to be returned.’

The teaser seems designed to cement Montecito-based Meghan’s evolving on-screen persona: part hostess, part lifestyle guru, part global celebrity.
