Jamie Redknapp hit out at the lack of quality on show during the first half of Manchester United’s clash against Chelsea.

Given the stature of the two clubs, it was hoped that an exciting clash would unfold at Old Trafford.

However, that certainly wasn’t the case, with neither side able to create many chances.

Old Trafford was very quiet during the first half, with Redknapp likening the game to matches during COVID, when fans weren’t permitted to attend.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Redknapp said: ‘It’s been like watching a game in COVID, there’s no atmosphere.’

Former Chelsea star Frank Lampard agreed with Redknapp’s assessment as he said: ‘It’s been flat, we’re all expecting a bit more with these two sides’.

United legend Roy Keane also agreed as he said: ‘It’s been a poor game.’

Chelsea went into the game having scored 19 goals in the Premier League this season – the same amount as league leaders Liverpool.

However, Enzo Maresca’s side lacked dynamism in the opening 45 minutes.

United, under the guidance of interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy, are currently undergoing a period of transition, with Ruben Amorim to take charge on November 11.

There was thankfully more option in the second period, with United taking the lead through a penalty from Bruno Fernandes.

Chelsea then equalised courtesy of a superb strike from Moises Caicedo, but Redknapp was still not won over at full-time.

‘Up until the goal it was a tough watch,’ he began. ‘The ball was bouncing It was like a pub game at times. It was hard to watch. United have had worse performances.

‘Until Amorim can start to work with the players it’s going to be hard for us to tell. I can’t figure out if they’re not good players or devoid of confidence. Some players have to leave. He’ll have his own ideas.’
