Man United submit second offer for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo

  • United’s initial £55m offer for the Bees star was rejected at the start of the month
  • Mbeumo notched 20 goals in the Premier League last season for London club

Manchester United have submitted a second offer for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo in excess of £60million.

Mbeumo has been a priority target for Ruben Amorim this summer but an initial £55m package was rejected at the start of the month.

United did not want to be dragged into repeated bids and have been working in the background to find an agreement with Brentford.

While it remains unclear if the latest offer has been accepted, United are accelerating as they look to get Cameroon star Mbeumo in for the start of their pre-season.

United’s players are due to report back to Carrington from week commencing July 7 as Amorim begins work on turning this underperforming squad around.

Goals was one of the biggest problems for United last season and that is one of the reasons why Mbeumo is seen as such a priority signing by director of football Jason Wilcox and the rest of the footballing hierarchy.

The Red Devils scored just 44 goals in the Premier League, the second lowest of any non-relegated side. Since joining for Brentford for a £5.8m transfer fee, Mbeumo has scored 70 goals in 242 games, including 42 in 136 Premier League matches.

The 25-year-old, who sees his contract expire next year – although Brentford have an option to extend it by 12 months – would become United’s second signing of the summer behind the £62.5m Matheus Cunha if they can strike an agreement.

Manchester United declined to comment when approached about a second bid.
