Man reveals he is breaking up with his girlfriend over dog

  • The unnamed man took to Reddit to ask people for advice
  • He questioned if he was in the wrong for wanting to break up with his girlfriend
  • The man revealed his girlfriend didn’t want his dog sleeping in their bed

A man has ignited a fiery debate after admitting that he is planning on breaking up his girlfriend because she doesn’t like that his dog sleeps in the bed with them.

The unnamed man took to Reddit to reveal that he has been a pet owner for the last seven years, adding that his dog has been his ‘support’ through difficult times.

In a thread titled, Am I The A**hole, the man explained that his dog had been sleeping with him since he was seven weeks old.

He revealed that his girlfriend recently moved in and had gotten fed up with her lover’s dog sleeping in the bed with them.

The boyfriend asked people on the web if he was right to want to put an end to the romance after she pushed his dog off the bed.

The unnamed man took to Reddit to reveal that he has been a pet owner for the last seven years, adding that his dog has been his 'support' through difficult times

The post was titled: ‘Dog has slept in my bed seven years’.

At the start of the post, he explained: ‘My girlfriend moved in recently and my dog has been beside me for seven years since he was 12 weeks old.

‘She pushed my dog at his chest with two hands the other night and gets a little angry about him sleeping in the bed. At first it was about the hair so I washed a ton of sheets, blankets, pillow cases to have back ups and to have a sheet always over the bedding we use.’

Although the man thought consistently changing the bedding would help, his girlfriend was still not on board with his dog sleeping in their bed.

He added: ‘I don’t like her being aggressive to my dog and find it a turn off. She thinks my dog is jealous and doesn’t like her. I think she’s being dramatic and I absolutely will get rid of her before him.

‘He’s been my healing in life and taught me a lot about anger and not being depressed so as to keep him safe and happy and fed.

‘He’s like my son, brother and best friend. He’s made me suck it up when depressed and been my support.’

At the end of the post, the man questioned if he was in the wrong for wanting to break up with his girlfriend.

People on the web flooded the comments section as they were fiercely divided about what to do

He said: ‘Should I give her ultimatum or just move on to someone who respects my boundary? And am I crazy for putting my dog that’s has slept beside me for seven years over a new relationship?’

People on the web flooded the comments section as they were fiercely divided about what to do.

Many people claimed the man was overreacting.

One person said: ‘I would feel so unwelcome and dismissed if I was her. I’m a big dog person. Of course you want to be loyal to your best friend.

‘But if you’re trying to have a fulfilling relationship with a human, and you’re actively relegating them to a lesser place/priority than your dog, that’s a pretty substantial message that they’re not serious about having a relationship.’

Someone else added: ‘OP is not ready for a relationship.’

‘OP needs to get a grip and get his dog out of his bed. So disgusting and weird. I can’t with Americans and their dog culture it’s actually freaky,’ said another person.

Another user wrote: ‘Yes. You’re the a**hole. She’s a person, she needs space in the bed and if she has to move your dog out of her way then that’s what happens. Get a life, get a clue and get a dog bed.’

However, other people on the web agreed with the boyfriend and praised him for sticking up for his dog.

‘I dumped so many girls back in the day, because of the way they acted around my dog, it took a few years but ended up finding an amazing woman who was amazing with my dog. Don’t settle, that dog deserves better,’ commented one person.

Someone else said: ‘Not the a**hole and dump her.’

Another person wrote: ‘Just get another girlfriend. And a king-size bed. Not the a**hole.’
