Man’s body found in grounds of school as police launch investigation

A man’s body has been found in the grounds of a primary school this morning.

Forensic teams are currently at Barwell Infant School, near Hinckley, Leicestershire, after reports of the body being found at around 7.30am.

The man was pronounced dead by emergency services a short time after. 

The pupils were not believed to be at school when the discovery was made. 

Pictures from the scene show police and forensic vans inside the school’s playground. 

Four police vehicles are on the scene.

One person who lives on the street told Leicestershire Live: ‘It’s usually a quiet road, I mean, you can hear the kids at break time, but not much goes on.

‘I opened my curtains at the usual time and saw police cars and an ambulance.’

Officers say the discovery was made in Townend Road, the same road as the school, with u niformed officers also in the area

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: ‘Shortly after 7.30am today a report was received stating the body of a man had been found in Townend Road, Barwell.

‘Emergency services attended and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

‘His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

‘Identification of the deceased is a matter for HM Coroner.’

A spokesperson for East Midlands Ambulance Service said: ‘We received a call at 7.40am on Thursday 27 November to Townend Road in Barwell.

‘We sent two paramedics in solo response cars and an ambulance. All our resources have since left the scene.’

Barwell Infant School is a mixed community school with 165 pupils aged between four and seven and was rated Good at its last Ofsted inspection in 2023.
