London flat has one flaw that makes it a ‘death trap’, say viewers

A flat fetching £2,650 per month in rent has been branded a ‘death trap’ because one of its beds hovers above a hole in the floor.

House hunters were initially delighted to discover the self-titled ‘delightful three-bedroom’ property in Walthamstow, east London.

Images taken at the flat show off its pristine dining room and living area furnished with wooden cabinets and tables, before leading out to a slabbed and well-lit garden area.

As viewers make their way through the property, the bright kitchen and tidy bathroom all point to an organised and peaceful living environment.

But when they discovered what awaited them in the loft, online house hunters could hardly believe their eyes.

If the low ceilings and limited space didn’t make prospective renters claustrophobic enough, the bed hanging over the ceiling hatch may just have tipped them over the edge.

Instead of opening a door to walk into the loft-turned-bedroom, anyone who takes up the offer of moving in will have to climb up through the kitchen’s ceiling hatch.

And viewers online rushed to raise the prospect of its potential stomach-churning health and safety risks.

The bathroom inside the property shows a chequered pattern round the shower and a mirror with built-in lighting

One poster who shared images of the flat to TikTok: ‘This is the bedroom in the attic. Now number one, you can’t stand up. But number two, you actually have to get a ladder from the kitchen to go upstairs.

‘When you get to the top of the ladder, this is what you’re greeted with. You can actually see the hatch at the bottom of the bed.

‘Imagine falling through there? Or imagine bringing a girl back after a night out.’

When the landlord was contacted for comment he claimed that there ‘was an error in the ad’ and that it had now been ‘corrected’, with an image of a third bedroom being added.

However this ‘third bedroom’ only appears to have a single bed in it.

The images of the bed over the loft remained in the listing – suggesting it is a fourth bed in the house for the maximum ‘six tenants’.

Social media users posted under a video of the property to tell of their disbelief at the bedroom in the loft

Online commenters speculated over the safety of the set-up and how the bed even got up there in the first place, with one branding it ‘diabolical’.

One user replied: ‘How do you even put the sheets on,’ in an apparent reference to the lack of space for movement inside the room.

A second wrote: ‘Second bedroom is probably a hammock under the stairs, next to the water meter (en suite).’

Another called into question the price tag of £2,650 per month, saying ‘it’s got to be a joke.’

A fourth simply branded it as a ‘death trap.’
