Amorim says Man United owner Ratcliffe isn’t looking at sacking him

Ruben Amorim believes he still has the backing of Manchester United’s minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe despite overseeing the club’s worst to a season in 33 years.

Ratcliffe flew into Carrington by helicopter on Thursday for talks with Amorim, chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox.

They discussed a difficult start to the season that has seen United take four points from four Premier League games after last weekend’s defeat in the Manchester derby, and go out of the Carabao Cup to Grimsby Town.

Amorim was asked what he talked about with Ratcliffe and joked: ‘He offered me a new contract! No, it was a normal thing to show the support, explaining that it’s a long project, which he has said many times.

‘We spoke about normal things with Omar, Jason and him. It was a normal meeting and we had several.

‘In this moment it’s normal for you to pay attention to that. This is the football club with maybe more pressure than any other in the world and we want to win.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has insisted his job as head coach is not at risk

Sir Jim Ratcliffe flew in via helicopter for talks around United's poor start to the season

Ahead of Saturday’s clash with Chelsea at Old Trafford, Amorim added: ‘Last year I was very critical of the way we play. I think we are playing well until the boxes.

‘Defending and attacking, we need to be more aggressive in the boxes. We need to be more clinical. We are in a better place compared to last year but we need to win.’
