Jim Carrey breaks his silence after sparking wild ‘clone’ theories

Jim Carrey has broken his silence on the bizarre conspiracy theory that he has been ‘cloned’.

The Canadian-American actor shocked fans on Thursday when he attended the 51st Cesar Awards in Paris with a striking new look.

After pictures emerged of the 64-year-old accepting his honorary gong, the internet was abuzz with conspiracy theories ranging from the suggestion he had gone under the knife to the wild claim he had been replaced by a clone.

Now he has addressed the claims that it was not him at the ceremony, with his representative emphatically telling the Daily Mail that the actor did attend the show in person.

More details have since emerged about his involvement with the Cesars – dubbed the French Oscars – with Gregory Caulier, the general delegate of the awards, stating that Jim’s appearance was authentic and ‘a historic moment’.

Branding the controversy a ‘non-issue’, Gregory said: ‘Jim Carrey’s visit has been planned since this summer. From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation.’

What did Jim Carrey do to his face?

Among the most shocking social media suggestions is that Jim has been 'cloned', with the theorists highlighting his eye colour appears to be lighter

Noting that Jim had spent eight months discussing and practising his speech in French, he added to Variety that the actor had been supported by 12 of his family members and friends as he accepted the honorary award.

Since Jim’s new look was revealed, the internet has been abuzz with bizarre conspiracy theories.

Among the most shocking social media suggestions was that Jim has been ‘cloned’, with the theorists highlighting his eye colour appears to be lighter, while he was signing autographs with his right hand, despite reports he is left-handed.

One X/Twitter user penned: ‘I’ve been talking about human cloning for a long time and I’m glad to see it finally gain some traction. Jim Carrey was cloned years ago.

‘Something has changed behind the scenes to allow us to see unfinished and malfunctioning clones. New clones have a puffy look.

‘It takes time to perfect voices and mannerisms. Additional surgery is needed to create a perfect match.

‘I think this sloppiness is evidence of the ongoing silent war on cabal cloning by military white hats.’

Another added: ‘Yeah…umm NO! This is NOT Jim Carrey! Jim Carrey has dark brown eyes for one…this copycat/clone creature has light eyes.’

One fan suggested that Jim was deliberately trolling the public, tweeting: ‘Calling it now, thats not jim carrey and its all a publicity stunt for a movie hes in soon or a documentary [sic].’

Adding fuel to the fire that it wasn’t really Jim at the Cesars was drag queen Alexis Stone, who is renowned for their celebrity impersonations.

The British makeup artist, whose real name is Elliot Rentz, has pulled off many similar stunts over the years, famously attending fashion week shows in character as some of Hollywood’s most beloved stars.

In an Instagram post on Sunday, Alexis claimed she had attended the Cesars, sharing a snap of Jim with the caption: ‘Alexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris’.

She added an image of a prosthetic face mask and false teeth, which, while seemingly AI-generated, fooled plenty of celebrities.

Among those commenting was Megan Fox, who penned: ‘I can’t handle any more stress right now I need to know if this is real’, while Lisa Rinna wrote: ‘You blow me away’.

Love Island’s Malin Andersson asked: ‘Is this legit??? Or is this a distraction’, while Keeping Up With The Kardashians star Stephanie Suganami commented: ‘you’re lying !!!!!!’

While at the Cesar Awards, Jim didn’t just get people talking about his appearance but also his kind words about the special people in his life.

The Hollywood star was joined on the red carpet by his daughter Jane, 38, her teenage son Jackson, and his partner Min Ah, who Jim referred to in a heartfelt speech delivered entirely in French.

‘Thank you to my wonderful family, my daughter Jane, and my grandson Jackson. I love you now and forever. Thank you to my sublime companion, Min Ah,’ he said. ‘I love you, Min Ah.’

Exactly when Jim and Min Ah got together remains a mystery.

During the ceremony, director Michel Gondry reflected on their work together on Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind in an emotional speech.

When Jim finally stepped up to speak, the The Mask star said, ‘About three hundred years ago, my great-great-great-great-grandfather, Marc François Carrey, left Saint-Malo in France for Canada.

‘Tonight, with this magnificent honour, this “square” has come full circle. Perhaps this is what my family was looking for.’

Jim’s presence on the 51st César Awards red carpet itself was already notable – after a four‑year hiatus from major film roles, he resurfaced in 2020 as the mischief‑making Dr Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog.

But even then, whispers of retirement followed him.

In April 2022, while promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Jim shocked reporters by admitting he was ‘probably’ stepping away from acting.

‘Well, I’m retiring. Yeah, probably. I’m being fairly serious,’ he said at the time, adding that unless ‘the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink,’ he was ready to embrace a quieter life.

‘I really like my quiet life and I really love putting paint on canvas and I really love my spiritual life,’ he continued.

‘I feel like – and I feel like this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists – I have enough. I’ve done enough. I am enough.’

Despite that frank talk of hanging up his acting hat, Jim couldn’t stay away from the role that has become a late‑career trademark.

He returned as Dr Robotnik for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 last year, candidly admitting that part of his reason for coming back was practical.

‘I needed the money,’ he joked in an interview.

Jim is set to reprise his role as Dr Robotnik in Sonic 4, scheduled for release in 2027.
