Mumfluencer backlash at Jamie Laing for ‘insensitive’ post

Jamie Laing has been slammed for by mum influencers on Instagram as they claimed his Christmas post was ‘insensitive’ and sets ‘unrealistic expectations’ on new mothers.

The Made In Chelsea icon, 37, and the podcaster, 31, welcomed a baby boy named Ziggy earlier this month.

And on Friday, Jamie took to Instagram to praise his wife for creating a ‘magical Christmas’ just three weeks after giving birth.

Sharing a sweet video of Sophie beaming besides their festive table, he penned: ‘POV: your wife is 3 weeks postpartum and still creates a magical Christmas.’

However, fans were quick to call out the post for being insensitive and a ‘typical IG moment’ only showing the best parts of the day.

They penned: ‘This is lovely but also let’s not normalise post partum women being ‘superwoman’ it’s not normal.’;

‘I normally love your content, but this is an insensitive post and sets an unrealistic expectation/pressure on other new mothers. Not everyone has the money, resources and support to be able to do this.’;

‘In my opinion this is not normal and a typical IG moment. To, to me, this is sadly only about people pleasing and not prioritising healing and true connections.’;

‘My first Xmas when I was 3 weeks PP I slept most the day’.

Others questioned whether the couple had had outside help from caterers or other paid professionals.

They added: ‘Good she is recovering but be honest with your posts. You’ve paid someone to do this and got a chef in to do everything.’;

‘If you had a caterer (family members) helping please say so. Not detracting but keep it real for those not able to get near this. Life not a competition but it can feel like it is. Wishing you all health and happiness on your journey with Ziggy’.

Others encouraged new mothers to not compare themselves to Jamie and Sophie’s picture perfect Christmas.

They wrote: ‘Hey guys. If you’re 3 weeks postpartum and feel like death warmed up still. That’s okay too. You are also superwoman AND your body is doing ALOT. You’ve got this’;

On Friday, Jamie took to Instagram to praise his wife for creating a 'magical Christmas' just three weeks after giving birth

‘This is super unrealistic and contributes to a problem that causes post-partum women to suffer.’;

‘This should not be the priority at all and the suggestion or idea that it should be is part of the problem.

‘Let the gal rest and snuggle with the baby, let her eat to her hearts content so she can raise a human that is nourished physically and emotionally.’

However others were quick to rush to Jamie’s defense as they wrote: ‘Why is everyone so negative, Jamie is showing appreciation to his wife who’s obviously done amazingly after 3weeks of giving birth.

‘That does not take anything away from any other mother who’s not doing these things.’;

Nice to see you celebrating her @jamielaing it’s very important that she feels appreciated in this time she’s doing amazing and the definition superwoman truly fits her.’;

‘Pretty sure Jamie is just showing love and appreciation for his wife, he didnt come to insult all other post partum mums its not that deep’;

‘Wow, this is crazy Work! I hope she had plenty of support and help though’.

After welcoming their first child, the couple checked into the ‘UK’s leading postpartum wellness retreat’ last weekend.

The new parents took to Instagram with a snap after arriving at the £2K-a-night resort located within the five star Mandarin Oriental hotel in London’s Hyde Park.

Jamie and Sophie could be seen settling into their luxurious room, which sees Tenth Wellness provide 24-hour babysitters for mum and dad to relax.

The couple also enjoyed three Michelin star meals a day, as well as access to the hotel’s top of the range spa and beauty therapists.

Customers can also meet with a lactation consultant, attend educational groups for new parents and receive post-birth belly massages to help boost blood circulation.

The hotel’s rooms have been equipped with a cot, nursing chair as well as a welcome hamper of postpartum goodies which included a pregnancy-safe skincare range called SKN TO SKN.

According to their website: ‘Every detail has been intentionally designed to support a mother’s wellbeing through expert-led care, tailored treatments, specialised support, and practical education’.
